I think this thread proves one thing very clearly. It's the offseason. Without our common love of Marquette basketball to bond us things can get very salty. Take Lenny and I for example. We couldn't be more different politically. But during the basketball season, we were part of the "Usual Suspects of Buzz Slurpers" as dubbed by Ners. Marquette basketball is the great unifier!

I do and I don't miss the Politics board.  At times there could be decent discussion with good perspective on both sides of an issue. But the problem obviously, as pointed out, was that some posters couldn't behave and resorted to either name calling or outright meanness.  Unfortunately, that behavior has found its way into Hangin' at the Al and Superbar threads.  Tolerance is not something that this country has much of, it seems, though many who claim to possess that trait are frequently  the most intolerant.

That said, I have no tolerance for Notre Dame.  ND blows.

This is all fine and dandy, but let's get the to real issue. Is Arrieta on steroids and is Jay Cutler a mediocre quarterback?

Should Marquette start a football program?

Scoop is no better, no worse, no different than society at large.   The country is bisected.   There is a lot of yelling and a lot of taking shots at other viewpoints without pondering the wisdom or perspective that may lurk in them.    It would be nice if we started acting like Jesuit-educated individuals, ones who were taught to think, ponder, and serve.  Sadly, we revert to our more coarse sides and forget about what we have in common, instead focusing on how impossibly pig headed the other is.   Frustrating.    I will try to be the change I want to see in others.

Easy answer, because the student section sucks.

I have been on very little over the past months, but I definitely believe there are folks that cross the line. The argument of ignore the thread or the poster is valid, provided they are posting within the rules. Frankly, I have vastly different political view than some on here and I try to keep those views to myself. When I am on, I hoping to read/discuss anything but politics.

So sex and religion are still on the table.

It can still get pretty salty, especially when we are losing; but I agree with your premise.

What "huevos" does it really take to say "I think these people should be banned and I'm leaving."

Not too much IMO.
