Marquette Wins the BEast's Presidents' Award
« on: September 14, 2017, 01:46:53 PM »
For having the highest overall achievement in academics, athletics, and citizenship in the preceding academic year in the conference.

Congrats, ladies and gentlemen!

Thanks!  My citizenship was off the charts good, which makes up for my recent lack of academic and athletic achievement.

Due to that high acceptance rate, I am sure, versus those East Coast elites.

Yep, I can hear those East Coasters now:

"Pfft, I'm not sending my kid to Marquette. They'll take anyone as long as they're athletic, smart, and an overall quality person."

This is a tremendous accomplishment. Kudos to the student athletes and the administration for supporting these efforts.

This is a body of work the entirety of MU can build off of and be very proud of.

We were also recently ranked #10 in the nation for having the most altruistic students.

I hate to keep beating the same drum but this award is in furtherance of one of my themes that we don't do enough to market our very good qualities . This Presidents award is a big thing and I hope the University really promotes it over the course of the next year .  Even little things like having it in the tag line of emails etc

No, actually you proposed that Marquette should lower its standards, arguing that that was the road to basketball dominance.
If you think for one second that I am comparing the USA to China you have bumped your hard.

You have me confused with another poster. I have consistently lobbied for higher standards.

Nice try though.

Of course, couldn't pass up the chance to move up from #11 to #6.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Congrats to MU for this great accomplishment!  This is a VERY big deal, but to Herm's point MU hasn't mentioned anything about this publically (at least not that I could find).  I looked through their recent news releases on both their general and athletic websites and didn't see anything.  It's possible I missed it but if not, hopefully one is forthcoming soon.   Congrats again MU!

Please, don't lump all East Coasters into that bucket. My cousin and I were there first in our family to go to college; she went to Douglas (Rutgers women's college at the time.) and I went to MU. A degree from any college or university (to hell with the rankings) is what you make of it. Now retired we both have done pretty well for ourselves.
