It doesn't surprise me. We all know that Buzz like to recruit toughness, grit, and athleticism and for the most part didn't recruit many finesse type players. He told Scott Christopherson that he wasn't going to get any playing time for Marquette and encouraged him to transfer. He ended up going to Marquette West (IAST) and was an immediate starter and three point sniper that we sorely could have used on some of our teams. But Buzz was probably right, the style of ball he wanted to play wasn't going to allow Christopherson to see the floor. Say what you want about Buzz but he knew the players that were and weren't going to work for his system.

Insert joke about traditionals here:
Not a joke, but the only "traditional" Buzz signed out of high school at MU was the famous Brett Roseboro.  His track record is similar at VT.

A trip back in time...Sam committed to UW after his sophomore year. He played for UW's farm system AAU team who was Adidas sponsored. He had just grown four inches. Tokoto was the jewel of that AAU team.

He had scholarship offers from Bradley, UW-Milwaukee, Northern Illinois and Northern Iowa

If by "immediate starter" you mean "after a year of sitting out and getting acclimated, he came off the bench more often than he started games in his second year on campus".

Yes, in that first year he shot well from outside - 45/105 for 42.9%. But that year we had plenty of guys who could do similar or better, including: Cubillan 49/119 41.2%, DJO 73/154 47.4%, Mo Acker 51/103 49.5%.

Others capable of hitting a shot from outside were Jimmy, Buycks and Lazar.

We shot 41.3% 3FG%... fifth best in the nation. SC no matta.

Exactly.  Dekker committed way early as soon as UW offered him, and then he exploded.  Let's not play too much monday morning QB with that.

I remember thinking that team was lights out from beyond the arc and now after last year they look pedestrian haha.

By "immediate starter" I meant that in his first year that he was eligible to play at Iowa State he was in the top 5 for minutes played on his team, which I shorthanded to starter. And before you say "that's not what a starter is" I don't care. That's what I define as a starter because its much more relevant information than who the first five players on the court. And IIRC, he did start some games in his first year so even by that definition he was a starter.

I also wasn't aware you could have too many three point threats on a team. All I said I was we could have used him. You brought up 09-10, what about 10-11? In what would have been SC's senior year with us, we shot an average 34.9% from three that season. SC's 84 3PM and 44.1% 3P% would have led our team in both categories. His eFG% of 54.6% would have been 4th on the team, behind Oxtule and Jae. I hear eFG reigns supreme.

All I'm saying is that SC was a quality player who was good enough to have a role on our team. Because he didn't match the play style Buzz was looking to run, he was encouraged to transfer.

OK. We just define things differently. I call someone who starts a "starter". Your view is that a player need not start to be a "starter".

When the PA announcer says, "starting for the Aggies" you disagree as he runs down the list of names. I say... "yep, those are the starters".  ;D

(the rest I agree with - SC could have been a nice piece for MU)

You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.
