Bernard King IS one of the great scorers of all time.    At 6'7, 205.    He did the majority of his work inside 18 feet.    Deadly from the baseline, deadly from the mid post.    I have nothing but respect for him.     What position would he play TODAY?    Who would be guarding him TODAY?    How would his skill set translate in TODAY's game?   He couldn't play SG and he is small for a modern SF.   He rarely shot the 3.     

When healthy, King was an effen stud. Hell, he was an effen stud even when he was gimpy! If DeMarr DeRozan can average 27 points (despite shooting .266 from 3), if Jimmy Butler can be an All-Star as barely a 30% shooter from downtown and if Paul George is considered a "superstar," Bernard King would have been just dandy in today's NBA.

In addition to being supremely talented, King was a hard worker who almost surely would have adapted his game to do whatever he needed to do to be great. I see no reason why he couldn't have become an outstanding 3-point shooter if that's what the game called for. But even if the 3 wasn't a big part of his game ... again ... see "DeRozan, DeMarr."

I'd be thrilled if Cain turns out to be 33% the player that King was.

MU82, you are exactly right.  I do not care when Bernard played, he can play in any of the last 5 decades and be a star.  Quickest jump shot I have ever seen.  I suppose  Allen Iverson could not play now, he was not a good 3 point shooter either.  But even quicker to the hoop then Bernard, but totally unstoppable in his prime.  Saw him score 50 against the Bucks in 3 quarters.  Fantastic talent, but nether shot the 3.  In this discussion,  the Big O could not play now.  Did not
shot the 3 either, but the strongest 2 guard I have ever seen.

Oscar was not a 2 guard. He was a point guard, one of the 2 best (with Magic) to ever play the position.

Bernard King was a player who's skill wouldn't translate today. He,   Adrian Dantley, and Mark Agguire are great scorers from that era who would struggle in today's NBA. Simply not tall enough, not quick enough, and didn't play defense.
   I watch the videos of Cain and think Sean Elliot with more range.   

Bernard King would get 20 (pre injury) in today's NBA.
AD... don't know, probably agree he's too small for today's version.
Aguirre - what's the difference between Jae Crowder and Mark Aguirre?  That's exactly what Aguirre's game would be in today's NBA.  Not bad in my book. I think their games are very similar.  Aguirre was a better shooter/scorer (especially on a bad team) but physically and style-wise very similar.
Any of those guys could develop a 3 point shot as well... in their era it wasn't needed.  It was a bad shot back then.

Theo is the guy we have been needing for a long time . Can't wait to see him in Big East action against guys like  Angel Delgado etc

Nothing against Theo, but I think Angel Delgado would/will destroy him. Probably a good chance Delgado gets some All-American recognition this year. He's one of the best centers in the country and already wreaked havoc on the league. No reason to expect he wouldn't do the same again. I know Theo has that "college-ready body", but Angel has a "pro-ready body" who just hasn't gone yet.
