For those of you who like cool names
« on: May 12, 2017, 07:47:38 AM »
I found this entire website dedicated to it.

http://www.nameoftheyear.com/

Although they don't limit themselves to athletes, their 2017 Name of the Year is an incoming freshman for the Illinois State football team - Kobe Buffalomeat.

Top Ten:

1. Kobe Buffalomeat 229 (6)
2. Sultan McDoom 156 (3)
3. Aphrodite Bodycomb 120 (3)
4. Marmaduke Trebilcock 112 (1)
5. Chardonnay Pantastico 107
6. Fortunate Sithole 97
7. Jeffrosenberg Tan 81 (1)
8. Andy Brandy Casagrande IV 80
9. Quindarious Monday 70
10. Faraj Fartass 61

My personal all-time favorite, Lourawls "Tum Tum" Nairn, Jr.  Was apparently a finalist in 2015.

Enjoy.
Have some patience, FFS.

I'm sorry, but any list that doesn't put "Sultan McDoom" at No. 1 is questionable.  I suspect it might have damaged the coolmeter.

Not to wander from the topic regarding athletes names, but when I was in havasu city, our propane gas company was owned by a family named passmore, bob passmore was his real name and the family had been in the gas business for 2 generations.  He even sold shirts and hats that were "guy" funny I guess

Agreed. The only explanation I can think of is that a lot of people didn't know what a sultan is while buffalo meat is pretty straightforward and Kobe is well known thanks to Mr. Bryant.

One of my high school English teachers told me this story: When he was a kid, his family drove past a mailbox with the name "Outhouse" on it. By chance, his parents actually met the Outhouses at a future party. They were told the name is pronounced "oot hoos."

There was a family from my hometown town named Knauf. The K was not silent. It was pronounced cuh-noff. There were brothers: Jack Knauf and Dick Knauf.

About 12 years old is when most boys started snickering.

The most unfortunate name that I know was someone I went to high school with. His name was Richard Inman.

This thread really makes you wonder what the parents were thinking at the time.

PM me for a tragi-comic name story that I cannot put in an open forum, but is truly epic.

The Western Hockey League bantam draft was, as always, a treasure trove:

    Sequoia Swan
    Krz Plummer
    Anson McMaster
    Ethan Ironside
    Joel Sexsmith
    Aiden Bangs
    Payton Mount
    James Bohn
    Robbie Fromm-Delorme
    Wyatt Marlow
    Kalen Szeto
    Ozzy Wiesblatt.
    Kalen Ukrainetz
    Dallon Melin
    Aiden De La Gorgendiere
    Talyn Boyko

Also, two Bradens, a Braeden, a Braedy, a Braydan, two Braydens and a Braydon. Also: two Kadens, a Kadyn, a Kaeden, a Kaiden, two Kalens, a Kannon and a Kyler.

Even though it is an actual last name, if you can't see anything wrong with it, the problem lies with you.

it's his last name!!  so by your logic, if he had a business, he can't put his name on the front?  could he run for office with that name or by your standards, does he have to change it?  or better yet, no, he can't run for office?yes, i get what it could mean and no, there is no problem with me.  no need to personalize this-you could have made your point without the last part, but whatever... ?-(

Because with all those other things,  it would be assumed that Grabher is a name.  On a license plate it would be assumed to be a crude joke.

TAMU put it very well.   Running for office, name above the door, pretty obvious it is their actual name.    A license plate, not so clear.

so if it is "assumed" to be a crude joke by a few, whose problem is it?  see, this is the problem-we live in a society where if you look hard enough, you'll find someone who's offended by the word cat. i'll bet you i could find someone who will interpret cat as obscene and be offended. yes, if it's something obviously crude, vulgar, racist, but grabher?  would boobs, asseater or bigbonr be ok?  i would think not but tell that to new hampshire. by these standards(new hampshires) grabher would be thrown out because it's stupid.  would grabhim be ok?  i think you guys are being overly sensitive or just contrarian

Different people have different standards. I'm comfortable with where both New Hampshire and Canada set theirs.

Grabhim  would be different. Men don't have to worry about being grabbed and groped by strangers on a regular basis. Maybe that will change in the future

I saw a vanity plate awhile back in Madison that said, "Lusty 1." I assume it belongs to ZFB.

Another odd one was "UW RINO." Self proclaiming to be a "Republican in name only" seems like an odd choice for a vanity plate but it made me chuckle.  Especially with UW in front of it.

Then there was the time my wife's car was hit in a parking lot. But we caught the hit and run driver because I remembered his vanity license plate. Much easier than if we had to a random combo of letters and numbers.

I saw a vanity plate awhile back in Madison that said, "Lusty 1." I assume it belongs to ZFB.

I think Bo Ryan is the smart money there.

BTME2IT is the plate on Bo's other car.
