On SI i just they have a list of people who will declare and they have Edmond sumner on there, why would they think he would leave? If he stays another year he will tear up the BE and probably could raise his draft stock

Omer Yurtseven NCST

Yurtseven is a great name, sounds like an address in Mongolia.

Harry Giles has officially declared for the draft, smart decision because if he stays another year at Duke he could risk another injury

Or it could cost him many millions by declaring now. He has not shown that he is fully healthy. So instead of being going top 2, he may not even be a lottery pick.

Yet he'll make millions more than the $0.00 he'd make at Duke.

Absolutely. If he is (or gets) fully healthy, it won't be much of a difference in the long run. The big contract is the 2nd one.

If his knees show problems in testing before the draft, his 1st (and maybe only) contract will be pretty small as a late 1st - early 2nd round pick.

Link to this past year's rookie pay scale for first round picks - http://basketball.realgm.com/nba/info/rookie_scale

Minimum guarantee for 1st overall = $15,422,100 over 3
Minimum guarantee for 15th overall = $5,192,200 over 3
Minimum guarantee for last pick of first round = $3,060,700 over 3

Pretty huge spread, but shows why the conventional wisdom is that if you're going to get picked in the first, you go, regardless of where in the first. If you're projected to go in the first but go back to school for a year, given the combo of injury risk and present value of $$, you better be damn sure that you're going to be a high lottery pick the next year.

I would like to create a Scoop Bot that autoposts in response to a post containing some equivalent of "stays another year" or "stays in school".  This will get awkward in that next Superbar post about MPS.

I mean, if someone is guaranteed to get a guaranteed contract that pays them millions of dollars, you just take it and figure out the rest later. Potential doesn't stay potential forever unless you're Jay Cutler or Tim Tebow

Obviously if Giles is a lottery pick with bad knees he will be drafted by Portland.

Drew Eubanks from Oregon State and Juwan Evans from Oklahoma State are declaring.

It sounds like James Blackmon from Indiana will also.
