Bill Murray strikes again...
« on: March 23, 2017, 11:49:14 PM »
I know, superbar,  but our season is over.

Congrats to X on a great win.  Mark it down, they'll be in the Final Four.  Murray helped the Cubs last year, hopefully he helps Xavier.

Go big east!

I thought it was over after AZ went up 6. Mad props to X for hanging in there. O'Mara is a beast. Still can't believe MU destroyed this team 22 days ago...

The refs stopped blowing the whistle and just let them play the last 3:45. That played right into Xavier's hands!

Go Big East!!!!

Is he still pimping his name out there every off season?

It's amazing to go from where they were a couple weeks ago to where they are now.  If you asked me before the tournament started which Big East team would be least likely to make a run, I'd have picked Xavier or Creighton.

Great draws help.  Maryland into FSU is as good as you can possibly ask.  Then Arizona is a really good team, but Xavier matched up fairly well with them.  Thought Xavier lost in the S16, but also thought if there was any team that was going to beat Zona in this bracket it was going to be Xavier.

Xavier is tough.   They just took a while to figure out how to play after they lost their PG.     They have size, versatility, a coach who is willing and able to switch up defenses, and a couple of big game players.    Congratulations, X.   We still beat you twice.    ;D

Got up on them early by spreading the floor and chased their shooters off the 3 point line.

Nothing out of line, just picked Zona to win and thought X would have a really hard time with them.  They also needed more then Blueitt to score.

Not really to the bolded.  They finished out their road win at St. John's without him and then won their next 3 (vs. Seton Hall, at Creighton, vs. DePaul).  They didn't go into their slide right after they lost Sumner, they actually responded really well to it.

I've already heard Xavier be referred to as Cinderella.

I know they're an 11 seed, but really? Xavier is a mainstay of the tournament.

I wonder if this is me seeking out BE hate, but I don't think so. If Duke were an 11 seed and made an E8 run, would anyone dare refer to them as a cinderella? I doubt it.

In a tournament absent real cinderellas, X is as close as it gets this year. The team is a mainstay, yes, but every team is different. This one was dead in the water. The fact that something clicked so late is incredible.

I consider Gonzaga a Cinderella this year if they get to Phoenix. I know they're a 1, and were ranked #1 in the polls, but as good as they are, no one really expects perennial darlings Gonzaga to cut down the nets. Even their fans and the people that picked them, hoping against hope, probably feel like it will end inevitably at some point.

You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Bluiett hurt his ankle pretty badly in the Nova game, and that is really what started the slide. He was a shell of himself for a few weeks, and his injury on top of the Sumner loss was too much for them to overcome. Somewhat lost in all this is that one of their best players from last year, Myles Davis, was supposed to come back 2nd semester after being suspended for a while. He came back for a week or two and then quit. It is absolutely amazing they are doing what they are without Sumner, a first round NBA talent.

The late night Sportscenter last night also referred to the Zags/X matchup as a mid-major clash, or something to that effect.  To call either of these teams as mid-majors is just laughable.

As laughable as watching late night Sportscenter?  I'm pretty sure they dumb it down after 11:00p since 15% of the audience is drunk, 20% is people waiting for the weekly world series of poker semifinals, 25% ispeople who left their TV on, and the remaining 40% is people using the TV to cover up the laptop's sound so mom doesn't catch on to what junior's doing in the basement.
Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

We were the 11 when DJO's three killed off Syracuse to get to the Sweet 16, but we lost to North Carolina in the next game.

We were the 3 when we knocked off Davidson at the buzzer, got revenge on Butler for Maui, and then rolled overrated 2-seed Miami in the Sweet 16.

I would add that despite being overrated, every expert (except Eamon Brennan) picked Miami to win.
