Gave 'em a B-.

Going into the season, I thought we were a marginal NCAA team. I was going to be very disappointed if we didn't make the tournament. We made it, though we were a bit of a bust once we got there.

For my generation of Warriors, the expectation is to be in the NCAAs every year. We view ourselves in the same vein Indiana views basketball. We hope to be an elite team. In this vein, while I gave some thought to a higher grade due to the inadequacies on this team, I passed because our objectives should and again will be higher.

I'm happy with Wojo and with our direction. I also understand it takes time given the dumpster fire we inherited. But we are getting there, which is a solid B-.

The ironic thing is that they are changing it to '+,-' next year to be consistent with other universities.

Wanted to wait a few days on this one.

A big

Beat preseason expectations of NIT and went over .500 in league play so that moves them off a C.
Beat the #1 team in the country leading to a court storming.
Yes, the defense was bad but of course that was more than offset by the offense.
Finally, and importantly, the "average" fan in our family was really excited watching this team play. Don't discount the "fun"factor in the style of play and how that excites the average fan. This was a fun team to follow and it has been a fun season. That's what moved this from a B to a B+.

My first year at Marquette (78-79) we had the standard A, B, C, D, F. The AB, BC, CD arrived my sophomore year. I hated them.

I was (and still am) a schmoozer. If I had an 88.5 average in high school and then my freshman year at MU, I got bumped up to an A because the professor/instructor/teacher liked me and thought I had a lot to offer the class.

As soon as AB came along, that "advantage" of mine ended. 88.5 = AB. Case closed.

I somehow survived the tragedy, though!

Interesting.  I always thought the MU system was bizarre.

I have "fun" watching my team  play intelligent fundamental basketball and hard nosed defense.
"Play a style that will excite the average fan" has never been a goal for any athletic team that I root for.

B+ for me. Enjoyed being in the mix again and having the offensive firepower from deep despite all of the defensive struggles. Patience is key and we've had to endure for a few years, but I think we've turned a corner and the transition period from Buzz's program to Wojo's is completed.

Looking forward to next year.
