Far better than I expected, especially in the lower bowl. Well done by the athletic department getting out the stripes.

I didn't think the navy worked that well, nor did at least of my friends.  Didn't stand out for me.   Three colors is too many.
People we were with before the game didn't know anything about it.

I apologize for not doing my part. Couldn't find gold shirt for 102 this afternoon.

Looks like the folks who have season tickets did very well. Others who come on the mini plan or single game tickets, didn't get the memo.

Overall looked pretty sweet!

I think it worked. Light blue stripes harder to define.

I know shirts can be expensive but perhaps gruber could sponsor a gold out. Ever seat. We could do it! All it would take is on call, that's all!

Zero chance this works.

It doesn't work when there is one color (gold) and free t-shirts on all of the seats.

I'm not saying it couldn't be done, but I'm pretty sure it won't be.

Zero. Chance.

Not sure why they'd set themselves up for guaranteed failure.

Why even try this?  They have literally put a gold tshirt on every chair in the past and still couldn't pull off a gold out.

Now they expect it to work with 1) people bringing their own shirt and 2) people knowing what color shirt to bring?  I'm guessing more than 50% of ticket holders don't even know they are doing this.

And to the gold looks bad on me crowd, didn't they also try a baby blue out which went equally as bad?

I don't think the athletic department is incompetent, I just think this kind of stuff doesn't work well with our fan base.  We're more like herding cats than a single unified pack of cattle.

This would be a great idea, if they supplied the shirts. No chance this is going to work.

Okay, fellas.  Time to admit it.  Repeat after me:

I. Was. Wrong.

Hilltopper, nice try saying that there was 70% to mitigate your error.  My best guess is that the compliance in the lower bowl was 85%, and 75% in the upper bowl.  Student section was was at least 90%.

I noticed that at least two of the sections where the visiting fans get tickets (right behind X bench and upper bowl southwest corner) were in the Navy sections, so even the X fans helped out stripe out.  I'm going to give Athletics the benefit of the doubt and say it was intentional.

Agreed on it being intentional, and good for them.

I wonder if the novelty of the stripes encouraged more people to participate than a regular gold-out. Or maybe people would prefer their own clothes to a crappy 2X tee.

I was absolutely wrong. Said as much on Twitter last night, guess I didn't get over here. Great job by Marquette on the striping. Though in the future, I'd leave the navy blue out. Those sections turned out fine, but it doesn't really pop like the light blue or gold.

You know, the thing is that the success demonstrated last night can be built on as folks add to their wardrobe. Most folks probably don't (didn't) have championship blue.  But we do now.

Here's one thing NOT to do. Don't change the color for each section the next time they do this.  Compliance will almost certainly go up if they maintain.

Navy was done so the Xavier fans didn't pop out.

Let's not get carried away.  Look at the photo dsfire posted.  The foreground section in the photo was supposed to be championship blue, but maybe 50% of the folks in the photo complied - there is a mix of navy, gold, red(!) and others.  The navy and gold sections were better.

Probably would have been better to stick with just alternating gold and navy, as I suspect most people don't have a ton of championship blue gear.

I don't know...championship blue section looks pretty good here:

And before you start going off on the navy

blotches, I am pretty sure most of those are seats that were empty at the time the picture was taken.

And while we are at it,  here is a shot of the student section.  My 90% guess might be a little low.

Have some patience, FFS.

Yeah, it was OK.  I'd say the compliance was around 70% or so, so it kinda worked.

Didn't show up on TV.

Was wearing yellow in 411, but was pretty lonely.  Took the wife and 10 year old son to Buck Bradley's before the game.  My wife was laughing on the drive home today.  She said that I had told her all of these stories about MU games and partying but that she had always assumed I was exaggerating.   She and the boy had a hoot.  And thanks to the group behind us, the boy now knows how to impressively string together obscenities.  They would swear, he would giggle.

I was in 402 (in gold) and could see the lower bowl very well. It was clearly the effect that MU was going for. Well played.
