SOTG
« on: December 04, 2016, 02:50:18 PM »
1.  Sam. Many more SOTG to come for him.
2.  JjJ.  Yes, he took an ill advised shot, but played good D and rebounded when we needed it.
3.  Matt. Great game by him filling in for Fishy.
4.  Markus is fun to watch.

Great win!  Go Warriors!

Sam Hauser. 7-10 from the field, 4-7 from three. If I've got the calculation right, that's an eFG% of 90 percent. Total stud. Also pulled down 6 boards, got a steal and played some tough defense against skilled, bigger post players.

Want to say Sam because he paced us, but Johnson was everywhere. 5 steals, 8 boards, and some big ones among the trees for second chance points.

1.jjj had 16 points 9 boards 5 steals 3 assists and 1 blocked shot. He worked hard on rebounding and defense and without his intensity we would not have won. Yes it was ugly at times but he kept fighting on and never gave up

2. Sam made the most of his opportunities on the road very impressive

I appreciated the efforts from JJ and Howard, but it has to be Sam. And that said...

Watching Sam the past month, he really reminds me of a young Doug McDermott. I know it's easy to make insane comparisons, but just look at their games. About the same size, both solid defensive rebounders, great three-point shooters who take smart shots, efficient inside and out, just an obvious great player. I understand that McDermott put up far gaudier numbers, but if Sam was playing on a middle-of-the-conference team in a mid-major like McDermott was as a freshman, don't you think he could be putting up 15/7? Say that he was playing for Missouri State, Green Bay, or another mid-major, wouldn't his stats look similar? I'm really excited to see what he will become. Howard as well, but man, I'm loving me some Sammy.

I think that's a great comparison.  Sam has a ways to go on the defensive end (what Frosh doesn't) but the kid is an absolute natural.

Matt Heldt--biggest game when we needed him the most.
16 min 4 pts 7 reb(4 off revs) only 3 fouls and was scrappy and smart when we needed it.
If MH came in and had a typical MH game with the foul trouble of others this would have gone down a different road. MH did enough to allow others to win this game.........and for that Matt you are the S.O.T.G. Take a bow.

From Matty V
http://www.jsonline.com/story/sports/college/marquette/2016/12/04/notes-wojciechowski-issues-challenge-half/94975078/

Glad you highlighted this article, which went in depth discussing two different occasions in this game in which our head coach motivated his team to sensational results.

As for SOTG, I'd pick Sam, too, but I don't think it was by a landslide at all, as some suggested. JJJ played like a man possessed in the second half -- was absolutely the best player on the court. We don't build that nice lead without him getting steals on THREE straight Georgia possessions, including one out of a GA timeout. Very impressive run. We had a good rebounding edge largely thanks to JJJ's 10 boards, too. But Sam was outstanding all game long, and deserves the SOTG, IMHO.

Very honorable mentions for Howard and Heldt. I'm feeling pretty good about the future with our Hellacious H's: Hauser, Howard, Haani and Heldt!!!

Sam will continue to make people forget Henry. He is already a much better player for our team.

Silly.

Sir, I am offended you would even suggest such a thing.
I will NEVER forget Cordell Henry.

I'll agree that Sam is better for what Wojo wants to do. He's a better defender and decision maker. But as far as ability to take a game over, raw physical talent, Henry has a definitive edge. Despite playing a somewhat similar position, they are very different players. I'm glad we had Hank, and I'm even happier we have Sam.
