Reunion Weekend Suggestions?
« on: July 26, 2016, 08:32:39 PM »
In Milwaukee during Reunion Weekend to attend a scholarship fundraiser.  I have both early Saturday afternoon and then the evening open to bookend the event.  Any bars or restaurants for lunch or dinner worth hitting while in MKE?

For Saturday evening, you should at least check out the big party in front of the AMU.  It can be a good time if you run into people you know, and I believe it's free, so you can always bail if it's not working for you.

If you haven't taken it yet, I highly recommend the tour at Lakefront Brewery.  Smartass tour guides, and they let you drink before, after, and during the actual tour (and the beer is great). Get advance tickets, though.  It sells out fast.

Have some patience, FFS.

Here's three recommendations that may not have been open when you were in school.

For breakfast, I recommend the breakfast burrito at the Broken Yolk. Big enough to split.  Go to the one that's on the same block as Real Chili.  It's really good food, and the owner, Jim, is an alum...I believe an '83 grad.

The original Sobleman's on St. Paul is worthy too.

Miss Kitty's diner, I believe it's on Clybourn and 17th. Good food and you can get a bloody if you go for breakfast.  Your likely to run into Brew as well.

Coming up from Chicago, not from far away for a one-off visit.  20 year, but wont be availbale for much of the festivities.  There is a Foley Scholarship  Fundraiser saturday afternoon which is my aim.  Just looking for the current "gotta check this out" type place.  Lakefront, RC, Arts, Etc... all hallowed grounds, but will not make the cut this round.  What about Bavettes for lunch?   Any alternatives to Flannery's and Taylor's (which seem to be the default the last few times I've been up)?

Bavette is excellent, definitely recommend it for lunch. For a nice dinner I'd head south to Walker's Point. Some of the best restaurants in the city are down there.

Zak's Cafe in Walker's Point is great for breakfast/brunch.  Awesome bloody's.  Excellent benedicts.  Also owned (I believe) by an alum.

They used to do dinner; however, I don't believe that's the case any longer.
Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.

Had my first Long Island Iced Tea at the Safe House.  Liked it so much, I had a second, then a third.  No idea how I made it home that night....

"katies"?  Interestingly, that was where we had a few "pregame meals" before a match at Valley Fields.  No wonder we struggled.

Thanks for the input.  Depending on the train up, happy to buy a round for those a-round.  I'll post Friday.  Otherwise, Foley Scholarship fundraiser is 3-7 at Caffreys. $25 I believe.

Only one BroYo now. The one underneath the 2040s shut down last year.

You know what I miss? Marquette Gyros. I was so sad after they closed it down. Really messed with my drunk food options.

Something else just opened up in there.  Can't remember.  Also the Pita Truck now has a permanent location on WI, just past 16th.

Yea, it's a middle eastern food place. Went there once, wasn't that great.

On my way out.  I haven't visited Lakefront since they were located in the Klitsch Brothers garage.
