So what's it about?
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

Quote from: muguru
No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Felt more like the "we're throwing this in with your STH bill", but yeah, got it yesterday.

Also included in the mailing were the 2016-17 hospitality room levels.  Same as last year:

Blue & Gold Room = $500
Courtside Club = $3,000
Marquette Room = $12,000

The thing that always cracks me up is that the benefits are based on the fiscal year giving 7/1/16 - 6/30/17.  So if you donated this spring prior to the reseating, it does not count towards the hospitality rooms for this season.  I suppose it's another strategy to wring more cash out of season ticket holders.

No one's gonna talk about season ticket holders getting their names etched into the court?  Or was that only in my letter?

That is the University's fiscal year,  which is the time period they use to measure donation performance.  It makes perfect sense.  Plus,  if you donate every year, it all evens out.
Have some patience, FFS.

Yes, but why do contributions made after the season is already over (March thru June of 2016) count towards the previous season?  How does that make "perfect sense"?

Not really.  If timed wrong, one does not get, for example, Courtside Club access until into the 2nd semester as I found out last season.

Weird, mine said that the new arena would be named after me.

Privacy from people that can't afford to donate $12,000.

Yeah.  That seemed kind of strange, and like it might make for a weird looking court.

Good thing I have filed papers to change my name to Al McGuire.

They better effin serve the Marquette Special, with cheese and onions and a silver spoon and an autographed photo of Blondie for that kind a ching.  And cracker fights are allowed.

I saw that, seemed...interesting. Two things came to mind. First, they specifically said the court at the Bradley Center. So they'll maybe etch them in for the last season or two there? Second, have to imagine it will be done in such a way that it's not at all obvious. I mean, if Marquette has 10,000 STHs, you'd have to make the names pretty small, even on a full-size court. That's about 5.6 square inches per season ticket holder, less than 2.5" on each side of a square. Can't imagine that would be overly noticeable from a distance, especially if it's just etched in to a colored surface pattern.

The whole idea of a special room, elite fans rubbing elbows with elite fans etc., is just nonsense.

I'm not a season ticket holder, but I go about a half dozen times a year. When I go, I usually either go early and watch the guys warm up (usually can tell something about how they're going to play) or I go to dinner at one of several fine restaurants along 3rd Street. The restaurants are pretty good and glasses of beer usually have single digit prices.

When I go to the games, I'm  busy observing our basketball team or having fun with my guests.

By the way, I do give Marquette's general fund. The only thing I want in return is an occasional chance to purchase NCAA tournament tickets. Marquette can thank me by sending a receipt for the IRS and by making the NCAA tournament.

It's a nice place to hang your coats, grab a beer, and take a leak during the Vadger game without the long lines.
