Why no Anim?
« on: November 24, 2015, 05:58:42 AM »
I didn't watch the game (heard some on the radio), but notice in looking at the box score that Anim didn't play. Any particular reason?

I'd guess because we had trouble handling their press and needed ball handlers, and JJJ was playing great so he got more time.

I wouldn't read anything into it.  Matty and Wally got a couple minutes only owing to first half foul trouble.  Wojo's big game rotation appears to be 7+.

Anim was ahead of Heldt in the substitution pattern. I do think Anim not playing means something.

Hedlt only played a minute and it was to give Luke a minute of rest after playing the whole first half. We needed Heldt because LSU had one of their 7 footers in and Henry was on the bench with two fouls. Heldt playing says nothing about Anim.

I know Anim has the toughness we like but I don't think he's there yet. I think he will get the least minutes of all the scholarship players. He's better than Heldt at the moment but he'll get in due to lack of depth.

I do know, Newsie is right on you knowing ball.

And plenty of cupcakes coming up that should allow him to get game experience.

I don't think it means anything - as TAMU said, that was a pure match up sub.  Against teams that are small, Anim will get the minutes ahead of Heldt.

Anim looks to be 6'4".  Bad match-up versus LSU.

Anim not playing over Heldt's and Wally's very limited minutes doesn't mean anything.  Opponent, game flow and some players stepping up were key reasons he didn't play.  Anim is in the same boat as Heldt and Wally in terms of minutes they will play against good competition.  They will need to carve out minutes based on practice and improvement over the course of the year.

It means Wojo tightened the rotation and he liked how Cohen and JJ were playing.

This isn't CYO ball......everybody doesn't get to play just because they are on the team.

Remember that Anim just turned 18 about 2 months ago.  Age wise he should be a HS Senior.  I wonder if he'd be open to a RS next year like Amal McKaskill did as a soph.  The wing is deep with Duane, an improving JJ and Sandy, and Haanif all capable of playing next year.  A 5th year will probably offer more playing time than what Sacar would get next year, plus it would help roster balance by putting him in Sam Hauser's class.

It's pretty simple. In college basketball you really only need 7 maybe 8 guys if everything goes to plan(last year having literally only 7 or 8 is bad though).

The guys he's playing behind are our most expierienced guys. JJJ, Sandy and Duane who are clearly better right now.

The freshman that play are a MD AA and two that can play(or attempt at least) a position we don't have a guy for.

Against big teams I think Heldt needs to be ready to play 2-3 minutes a half.  I don't think he's earned those minutes but we need Henry & Luke to stay out of foul trouble.  OT would have been a disaster last night.
