Three Point Shooting
« on: August 20, 2015, 10:57:48 AM »
One thing that hasn't been discussed is that we shot pretty well from three in Europe and on top of that the three point line is 2 feet longer in FIBA competitions. Think we will be an above average shooting team this year?

I will say that we'll have more guys capable.  Last year it was essentially 2.  We cringed every other time a shot went up.

We'll be way better offensively.  Low post, Henry, 5 guys on the floor that must be guarded, etc.

We'll be a good 3 point shooting team.

Duane will shoot better than 35% from three this season, as will Sandy.

The rest... not sure what to expect. The freshmen all look pretty streaky from three. They should at least be serviceable enough to make the defense come out on them.

I think Duane and Sandy will be good shooters. Everyone else shooting threes will likely be in that 25-35% range. Not necessarily great, but considering what we've had at some of those positions in recent years, more than adequate enough.

We will be a better three point shooting team than last year, but I am not sure that will make us above average. The same goes for free throws.

Free throws were much better yesterday. What did we miss, two all game? It wasn't many. I really hope the different ball had some of the impact on that. Hopefully we see this team shoot around 70% once the season rolls around.

I think we will be better for the sole fact that teams will actually have to "respect" the 3.

Duane will be good. Sandy should be.

The rest outside of Luke and Matt are all capable any given night.

JJJ really can't do worse than last year from deep and if his new mid range form works from deep then we are looking nice.

Traci will be streaky but the fact that we finally have a PG that not only can make a few 3s but isn't shy at all about taking them...will really keep teams honest.

The increased threat will be biggest difference

Duane and Sandy should be the only "green light" shooters though.

As soon as we learn proper spacing, we'll bring a much more balanced and effective offense. Our guards were very capable of splitting the defenses in Italy. That won't be nearly as easy in the BE. One thing that impressed me was the mid range game from a number of players which was non existent last year. Hopefully Henry's 3 point game improves once we get more more offenses installed.

Overall impressed as the tour progressed and very happy with our quickness in the passing lanes.
