Coaches think freshman inelgibility is a terrible idea

Favorite quote:

"If you really want players to be better students, or more like normal students, stop playing games halfway across the country in the middle of the week. That's why I can't take Delany seriously on this -- because it's hypocritical. He's one of the commissioners who will do absolutely anything for money. And now he's worried about how freshmen basketball players adjust to college academically? That's laughable, and he probably knows it. He has to have a different angle that he's just not mentioning because I don't believe he's that concerned with the academics of basketball players."

That is a great quote. Thanks for sharing it.

I have thought that for years. They talk about student-athletes and it's all about the kids and yada yada yada. And then they pull the kids out of class on a Monday, fly them 800 miles away for a game Tuesday night, fly them back, pull them out of class again Wednesday, fly them 600 miles away for a game Thursday, fly them back, etc.

Conference tournament and NCAA tournament time is especially non-academic. Kids on the better teams will have barely seen the inside of a classroom for 4-5 weeks -- yes, I know, spring break is usually in there somewhere, but that's only a week.

So now we're going to protect the kid by taking away the one thing he enjoys? Beautiful.

Delany's quote isn't really about the student athlete.  This is all about trying to leverage the NBA to drop the one and done eligibility.  It's not going to work, but that's what it's about.
