coaching staff should get there
I'll be there, but rooting for Arrowhead since it's my daughter's school. Hope to see a good performance from Joey but...

Good lord I hope the current game swings soon because I do not want to be in Madison after they beat Villanova

Joey lit it up last night as SPASH won the state. 32pts, 21 boards. It looked easy for him.

He's got a wonderful advantage.  Joey knows everything about MU, the good and the not so good.  No coach speak needed.  If he likes what he sees, it'll be an easy and comfortable decision for him.

Joey Hauser=Kyle Singler

I was trying to think of a player comparison last night but this one struck me this morning. The Duke mention in the Rivals article triggered Singler in my brain.

Joey handles the ball well and likes to drive from the top of the key or left of the key.  Gets in the lane where he finishes with a little floater or gets fouled. Lived at the FT line last night.

Likes to operate in the mid post area 10-15 ft out, just above the block. Showed off a quick spin move to the baseline but really likes to face up. Can shoot over the defense if they sag back or drive if they play up.

Better athlete than Sam. Quick on both first and second jump. Good timing to block shots, extending his arms without bodying up. Good timing on rebounds, too.

Good but not great 3 point shooter. Not a Novak or Sam Hauser.

Can handle the ball with his left but almost always finishes with his right. Needs 15-20 lbs of muscle. Defensive stance needs a lot of work, as most high schoolers do. Fundamentally sound, high basketball IQ type. Not a one and done; more likely 3-4 years.

No worries.  Sam can play Sam's position.

Nice little article on Thurl Bailey in our local paper:

Thurl Bailey and N.C. State: Still winning on the dunk

By RON KANTOWSKI
LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL

Thurl Bailey was having lunch with a local media rep at Sid’s Cafe at Westgate Las Vegas on Wednesday — he was the tall one. The seconds were ticking away in the 1983 NCAA championship game, Houston vs. North Carolina State, at The Pit in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

He is used to reliving those seconds at this time of the sports year, for some reason. He was about to pass the ball to Dereck Whittenburg, for the next-to-last shot, when the waitress interceded.

Thurl Bailey hesitated. Just like in that epic game against Houston.

“Club sandwich and a Mountain Dew,” he said.

Benny Anders, No. 32 on Houston, flailed a long arm, nearly stole Thurl Bailey’s pass from the left corner.

Whittenburg launched a prayer from Truth or Consequences. Bailey went to the left side of the rim, in pursuit of a rebound.

Lorenzo Charles went to the right side.

“Lo” Charles slammed the ball into the basket.

They won it. On the dunk.

That’s what Billy Packer said on national TV.

Thurl Bailey was the leading scorer and rebounder for Jim Valvano’s team. He scored 15 points and pulled down five rebounds against Hakeem Olajuwon and Clyde Drexler and Phi Slama Jama in the badlands of New Mexico.

He never gets tired of talking about it at this time of the year. At any time of the year.

“There’s always somebody who has seen (ESPN’s) “30 for 30” about our journey, or knows about it, or was there or watched it on TV,” said the gentle giant, whom people sometimes forget averaged 12.8 points in 928 NBA games in 13 seasons with the Jazz and Timberwolves (he’s still a broadcast analyst for the Jazz.)

“It’s a story for the ages when it comes to sports. You don’t get a story like that come around — the complete story, not just that we won the title, but the way we won it — the guy who was at the helm, Jimmy Valvano, his story. So there’s a lot of stories within that dream. I never get tired of talking about it.”

The following morning, Thurl Bailey helped former Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman cut the ribbon before March Madness ensued at the famous Westgate sports book. He would count down the seconds at The Pit all over again, for anybody who asked.

The waitress arrived with his sandwich and Mountain Dew.

By then, the Wolfpack had won it again. On the dunk.

It'll be fantastic having Thurl as part of the Marquette family.  I sincerely look forward to meeting him.

+1  Sounds like a really great family and I like the fact that Thurl is still an analyst for the Jazz.  Every NBA connection helps....

Joey Hauser news......

I wouldn't trade our position with any other school. Unless Duke comes out of left field I have a good feeling. I think making the tournament this year could potentially ease some concerns about coming here. Let's get this locked up

I can't fathom an assistant coach who is recruiting for an university would share his thoughts regarding a recruiting process. That kind of stuff can come back and bite you (see twitter)  :)

Taking anything kenoshawarrior says seriously is as bad as an assistant coach talking about a recruit that has not signed an NLI.

I really hope said unnamed assistant coach who is recruiting Joey Hauser is running around telling everyone he's all but locked in to UW.  NCAA violations here we come!

So local head coaches are even aware of what the badger assistant is saying, yet not a single national recruiting expert has Hauser going to the Badgers.  If this information had spread as far as you suggest, it out be widely known information in recruiting circles and the crystal bowels would be changing.

Our biggest recruiting help regarding Joey, was UW not offering Sam.
Thank you.
