Now, that the recruiting season for fall is just about over.  How would you grade Wojo so far?  John fits a need, not a scorer,  physically ready it seems, Ike a year
or two away and Cain who looks very athletic.  In my opinion just OK.  Cain maybe a Top 100, the other two below 200.  Thoughts?

Spring, looks like another grad student.  Not sure if he has a power forward yet.
The good part of this class is it addresses a real need. It does not bother me that John may not be a strong offensive player. I grew up in the Al McGuire days and he always said he wanted a center that would concentrate on defending and rebounding and he did not want a center thinking about scoring. Maybe Al was just blowing smoke, but in watching the NCAA tournament over the years there were a lot of top teams with dominating centers who did not win the tournament. I think Eke is the type of player we have been passing on too often in the past. A player with huge potential, but maybe a year or two away. I wished we would of recruited an Eke type player the last two years. I really like Cain and he should become a very good player. The bad part is that I see other Big East schools getting higher ranked classes, so this class might not be good enough to move us up the standings.

I grew up with Al as well but look at his centers, besides Pat Smith,  Ric Cobb, Jim Chones, Maurice Lucas, even Jerry Homan, could all score,  Jerome Whitehead, might
not have been a great scorer but he played with 4 other pros and even Jerome had a 10 year pro career.  Blowing smoke.   The class was OK, but losing out on Tillman
sucked.  Can not win them all,  neither did Al.  Need one big to come in with some experience.  Like to get a JC transfer, maybe dreaming like Bob Lackey,

p.s. MuMark, I appreciate what you add to the discussion.  The above isn't aimed at you, but at those who value guru's rankings over the opinions of the coaching staff.  It's a temptation, obviously, I checked it out.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

I hope that Sam isn't a big liability at the 4 position.  I've watched him guard 6'10" players in high school.  He definitely defended taller then his height with his positioning, foot work and long wing span.  Now he is a few inches taller and about 25 pounds of muscle stronger.  How well that bodes in the BEAST remains to be seen.  I figure if he gets a true power forward guarding the 4 then hopefully he could get a 3 on the other end by making the guy step out.

How many 6-10 PF are there in the BE?  I think most closer to Sam's size.  But that is just my recollection from last season. I'd have to review rosters to figure that out for sure.

I've seen a lot of people mentioning things like 6"10 pfs. That's extremely uncommon in college ball. I don't think a single team in our conference will be starting a 6"10 kid at PF. This isn't the NBA. I've seen plenty of successful 6"6 college PFs. It's really more about strength and play style than height.

Thank you.  Jae Crowder was 6'6".  Jamil Wilson was 6'7".  Marquette can have Katin, Sam and even Sandy guard the 4.

From a glance at KenPom, there's 18 players returning to the Big East from last year with a usage rate of over 10% and a height of 6'8" and up, and one of them's Fischer.  18 returning guys, and that's including the tallest guys on each team who obviously aren't playing the 4.

Just about every Big East game I watched last year had a 6'10" PF in it. However, the only non MU team that match MU in height was Creighton. I would guess the average Big East PF is 6'8", so that would not be a big difference for Sam to contend with. The problem Sam may have is that he is practicing every day against someone who is only 6'5' or 6'6" and is not as strong as a Big East power forward.

Well 6'10" PFs are not common in the B.  Perusing the rosters, excluding centers who are listed as forwards, I see the following for this year:

Xavier - Kaiser Gates 6'8"
G-Town - Isaac Copeland 6'9"
SHU - Ismael Sanogo 6'8"
Nova - Eric Paschall 6'7"
DePaul - none of any note?
Butler - Andrew Chrabacz 6'7" ( Widemann plays center )
Creighton - Toby Hegner 6'10"
Providence - Rodney Bullock 6'8"
SJU - Amar Alibegovic 6'9"
SJU - Kassoum Yakwe 6'7"
SJU - Tariq Owens  6'11"

Suspect most listed heights are with shoes.  For those listed, the heights look accurate (with shoes) based upon highly accurate in-person sightings at the BC last year (except for Pachall and Owens).
