Well, one was a starter on a high-major team that went S16-S16-E8, won a Big East title and went 7-3 in the NCAA tournament. He also made one of the most important shots of our E8 season - a shot the other guy couldn't have made in his wettest dream - and had a couple of big NCAA tourney games.

I have always said Junior should be the "floor" - we should never have a PG worse than him - but you continue to crack me up by comparing him to the worst starting PG in the Big East for two years running. Maybe the worst two-year starting Big East PG ever.

Hell, just on the UConn shot alone - just that one shot - Junior was three times the player Derrick was. Stop the silliness.

This.  Junior is way under appreciated by some.

No Junior was not "three times the player."  You substitute out Derrick for Junior and I would agree the team overall would be worse, but not nearly as much as you are stating it.  Junior was not a good defender.  Just as bad as Derrick was offensively.

So yeah Junior hits the UConn shot.  Maybe UConn isn't that close to begin with had Derrick been the starter.  Who knows?

I can not believe in a recruiting blog, the discussion turns to Derrick and Junior.  Old history, this is about the future, not the past.

Not totally news but could be to you.

French, Cain, John, and Tillman are all visiting at some point in September. Big month ahead.

If we don't make the tournament this year and Duane transfers that top 10 2013 class will easily be the biggest flop of a recruiting class ever. Three of four transfer one decent center comes in and fights injuries and one didn't become good till the last third of his junior year. Quite a far cry from the second coming of James, McNeal and Matthews

If Duane transfers, it will be four of five transfer.  Could you possibily have forgotten MU's answer to Magic Johnson, John Dawson?

Who's the decent center of which you speak?
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

Quote from: muguru
No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Except Derrick shot a higher three-point percentage as a senior. Junior hit a miracle shot, the only three we had hit in the game to that point. He shot 22.6% on the year. He got lucky. It happens. That's like saying that Rosey Jones hitting a 50-footer makes him a great player (Rosey was, but not because of that lucky heave, like Junior). And yes, he was on those teams. So was Chris Otule. Both may have helped, but they weren't the reason those teams went that far.

I have always said Junior should be the "floor" - we should never have a PG worse than him - but you continue to crack me up by comparing him to the worst starting PG in the Big East for two years running. Maybe the worst two-year starting Big East PG ever.

We should never have a starting point guard who goes 92.0/96.1 ORtg as a junior and senior. Even Derrick Wilson was better than that. Junior is lower than the floor. He's like the sub-basement. The ONLY way anyone can positively compare him is to use Derrick. That's not a good thing. Junior was our worst point guard in a generation, and the only reason anyone argues otherwise is because Derrick followed him.

Hell, just on the UConn shot alone - just that one shot - Junior was three times the player Derrick was. Stop the silliness.

Saying that one lucky heave made a guy three times the player another guy was is more silliness than saying Derrick was the equal of Junior. Both were poor players by Marquette PG standards. The two worst I hope to ever see in my lifetime. Certainly the two worst that have played the position in the past 25+ years. Junior was not a high-major player. Buzz loved him, but that didn't make him good. Not sure why people struggle so much with that.

I think people struggle with,it because MU had so much success with Junior starting at arguably the most important position on the team.

The thinking is if he was that bad the team would have been much worse.

I'm not saying I agree with that thinking but I think that is probably at the heart of it.

I love stats bit they don't tell the whole story every time. Junior was much much better than Derrick....who will not be on campus to my knowledge during the four official visits we have in September.

See, I brought it back Glow  :D

Let the record show that brew re-started it!

And let the record show that, despite all that dribble brewski just regurgitated, Junior still was 3x the PG Derrick ever was.

S16-S16-E8. One of the biggest shots in recent MU history. Could actually trust him to shoot FTs with a game on the line.

Look past the freakin' advanced stats for once, my good man! Look at results!!!

That's the best reason I've heard, and I guess I can see it. I fully believe if Derrick and Junior's years were switched, they'd be remembered opposite. As Sultan noted, Junior was as bad defensively as Derrick was offensively. And frankly, outside Junior's passing, he wasn't much better on offense.

In general I agree Cadougan wasnt what we all expected him to be but come on man to say "outside Junior's passing, he wasn't much better on offense" is stupid. Passing is literally the job of the PG. it's basically like saying outside of rebounding and blocking out big men Otule was a waste on offense. Not everything is points and you know that better than anyone.

We won with JC, he played his role on the team pretty well and had good results. But lets start
some new history, with or w/o Duane. I hope all four officials make it to campus!

Wojo gets paid the big money to figure that out. Odds are likely someone will want to transfer/grad transfer.

I'm hoping 2 out of the 4 will want to join Eke.  If 3 want to come, great.  The chances all 4 will opt for MU is pretty slim.

Maybe Wojo will adopt one of them will all that dough, ai'na?  Or maybe one has an NBA playing brother who will pay their tuition?

Agreed that not everything is points, but scoring does matter, and at the point, so does not turning the ball over. Junior turned it over a lot more and really wasn't any better scoring the basketball. If you think of the ideal point guard as being good at driving, shooting, passing, maximizing possessions, and defending, Junior was a plus player in one category. So was Derrick. Debating which of them was better is like arguing about which one legged man would win the ass-kicking contest.

As far as recruiting goes, I really feel we need two bigs. The rest will sort itself out. For me Tillman is absolutely the top priority. I really think he can be that tough, aggressive 4/5 that gives us a lot of the toughness this team doesn't have. I'd be happy with either John or French. My favorite of the wings is Nwora, though I'm not sure when he'll announce visits.

I wouldn't mind leaving a scholarship open until spring. Whether a quality player emerges late or a transfer becomes available, I like our roster makeup and have no problems going forward with 12 like we are this year.
