My point is that if we are scheduling RPI 300+ for a win, and couldn't get a win against RPI 200, then our team is bad and having an extra W but a weak SOS won't matter come March.

I'd argue having a really bad team with no chance to make the Tourney but getting to 18-20 wins looks much better and gets fans more invested than a really bad team with 13 wins.

Completely agree.  ND has no interest in maintaining a rivalry with us. No upside for them so their logic is why do it.

I remember in the 70s they gave up a great rivalry with Michigan State basketball and I think it ultimately hurt them.

I think ND cares about our rivalry.  They have played us more than any other team in the county....

If the rivalry is good enough that fans pour beer on the opposing coach, then it's worth continuing!

The fans may care about the rivalry, but it certainly seems like Brey and the administration do not. If Notre Dame wanted to play Marquette, it would be happening. It isn't a lack of trying on our part.

I'm sure it isn't... But with the New Big East and the ACC expansion it is difficult enough to schedule theses things - just ask Mike Broker!  I believe there are too many connections for it not to continue.
