Bullets dodged

Former Marquette 2015 targets Davon Dillard and Tyson Jolly both committed to Cuonzo Martin at Cal. Neither will be playing there next year.

Dillard spurned his Cal commitment and enrolled at Oklahoma State this week. Jolly failed to qualify and will attend prep school. He says he is still committed as a 2016 prospect.

Considering out already thin roster, it's fortunate Marquette didn't get these two instead of Cheatham and Anim, both of whom seemed to be the competition for the scholarships Wojo would have given to Dillard and Jolly. Huge blow to Martin, who will be relying heavily on freshmen for minutes next year.

It sounds like Cuanzo had a "Newbill Swap" set up...

Yup, he was definitely Newbilled. Man, college sports can be a scummy business. Hope Dillard becomes a superstar.

If DD was 'newbilled' by his new coach (who was a MUBB hopeful for some), it appears to me that the bullet that was dodged in this case was MU hiring Wojo, and not hiring Martin. I am thrilled with who MU got commitments from, but I fail to understand how we should be thankful that DD doesn't play for our team based upon these events.

I thought of that as possibly a third bullet dodged, though to Martin's credit he did land Jaylen Brown and Ivan Rabb. Not exactly shoddy recruiting.

I got more of the vibe that Dillard was not 100% committed.  He didn't sign his NLI or anything else.  The fact he had a better landing place leads me to believe he was still shopping.  Newbill signed his NLI but then "never applied"

In lieu of a 1,000 words, I present the following:

Wow, I'm very concerned for Benny.  Being able to mimic Myron Medcalf's writing so closely implies an oncoming case of dementia.
