SBNation is predicting a 4-yr. $28mil contract with the C's for jae. And 4-yr. $52 mil for Wesley with the Mavs(!?).

Wait...for real?  Jae parlayed those couple good months into an expected 4-year $28M deal? If so, good for him!!!
I would take the Rick SLU program right now.

You need to look at the entire region(MSA), not just the city of Boston, especially for TV markets.
Boston MSA = 4.5M (rank 10)
Milwaukee MSA = 1.5M (rank 39)

Half of MU's endowment. Only one of these great players would be recruited today.

Given that Wojo has already signed a player who will make tens of millions in the NBA, I'm okay with the new recruiting philosophy.

Maybe two. With three years of eligibility, it wouldn't have been tough to get Jimmy on track to graduate. But definitely not DW or Jae.

Doubtful a JUCO of any kind would be looked at seriously today, especially Jimmy who committed before he visited. Two non-graduates (plus three more non-gad NBA'ers with Vander, Lazar and Buycks), and we have ourselves an elitism dilemma. Compare these salaries and school debt with the valedictorians of their classes.  It is a grey area but MU has lost its way from its roots as a school who honors "firsts".

Is there any source that documents who has graduated and who has not? It would be interesting to see how we compare to several other schools. I remember finding some data that had us as one of only a handful of schools that had a 100% grad rate for black basketball players but that data is rather dated. Anyone got a place to go?

Per ESPN: Jae signs with the Celtics for 5 years/$35M...

i think jae's college drop out self is doing just fine.

Between the 4 of them they could put a hefty chunk into the new arena by themselves and make the Bucks pay rent...Never thought id see the day where Jae Crowder would be getting a 5 year 35 million dollar deal. Wow.

Jameel McKay committed and enrolled at Marquette after the JUCO clamps started coming down. That worked out because the staff was able to work with him to make sure he'd be on track to graduate. Wojo looked at a number of JUCOs this year and offered at least one (Maurice O'Field). The common thread of guys he was interested in was that many were full qualifiers out of high school like Tyrone Outlaw, who played a year at UNC-Greensboro before enrolling at Lee College.

Marquette won't continue to be JUCO U, but that doesn't mean we won't occasionally go down that road if they meet the criteria. FWIW, I had no problem with Wade or Crowder getting a shot. Especially Crowder, who was behind the 8-ball because one non-accredited school sold him a bill of goods. No, he wasn't going to graduate, but the kid was still a credit to Marquette.

No one here is saying that.

Brew,

Coach K has signed exactly one JUCO, and he never showed up. Sure, as a possibility, Wojo may look or sign one in a pinch (and MU had a spot for O'Field twice this Spring if they wanted him), but I doubt seriously we will see one at MU (remembering O'Field had academic eligibility issues even at ETSU as a frosh commit).  Also, the McKay situation under Buzz didn't really help things at all with the admin with Juco's (or certain alums). I think those days are about done.

I don't think it will be near as common, and I certainly don't think Wojo will build his foundation of success on JUCOs like Buzz did, I'm just saying that it's not a closed door.

If a fully qualified JUCO or a kid with solid academics and three years eligibility were available, I think they would be options. I am fully under the impression Marquette would have taken O'Field, he just chose to commit to Hurley (twice).

EDIT: That said, I agree that we probably won't see near as many JUCO targets, and have a feeling Wojo is more likely to follow the recruiting plan K used as he gets his own guys in here. If we didn't see a JUCO for a decade or more, it wouldn't surprise me.
