I'm from Santa Monica, I went to Marquette, it's not that big a deal.  Buy some gloves and suck it up.

Always thought you were a Louisiana A&M fan..... now realizing that school does not exist.

Seriously, has MU really had such trouble landing kids from warmer climates over the past 15+ years?

Jimmy Butler (Texas)
Jae Crowder (Georgia)
Haanif Cheatham (Florida)
Jamail Jones (Georgia)
Joe Fulce (Texas)
DeMarcus Minor (Texas)
Carlton Christian (Florida)
Chris Otule (Texas)
Juan Anderson (Cali)
Karon Bradley (Texas)
Ousmane Barro (Senegal)

Obviously the Midwest is, and likely always will be, MU's base, but it's hardly some impossible task to recruit a player from someplace warmer than Milwaukee.

New Jersey is warmer than Milwaukee and Al never had a problem recruiting Jersey guys.

You can give all the scholys you want out in California, you want transfers, wait till they spend a winter here.  California kids have no idea about winter.  We will really see how good the new coach is and how many kids want to follow him.

What was the last "warm weather" NCAA team to win an NCAA title?
Arguably Florida.

How many in the past decade?
2, but just one team: Florida (2006-2007).

Before that? Arizona (1997) and UCLA (1995).

Duke won it about 2 months ago, North Carolina isn't exactly cold weather.

Just since 2005, UNC twice, Florida twice, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisville, Duke twice.  The only cold weather school since then to win the National Title was Connecticut twice.

Didn't those teams have a game cancelled due to horrible snow fall?

I think they qualify.

The average low temperature in Durham from Dec-Feb is about 29 degrees, which is the same as Philadelphia.  Highs are closer to 50 for the three months.

My parents in central Florida see plenty of highs in the 50s and see low temps in the high 20s and 30s regularly throughout the winter. Is NC (outside of mountainous areas) ready for a significant (3+") snowfall? If not, that's not a cold weather state.

You're not kidding. Some family friends sold off their citrus farms for that very reason.

Ha, I grew up on 25th between pico and ocean park

Nice area, close to everything.  Know the area well but he moved up in the world, then to Palasaides and now Malibu.  Life is good for CA people, if you bought a house 30 years and kept
moving.

Eh they all have automated sprinkler systems that spray warm water when cold, basically creates a warm mist around the trees.  Back in the day, they used to have to drive out in the middle of the night and light kerosene heaters though.

Bigger threat is greening, aka a foreign tree parasite that kills trees within months, entire groves wiped out in the last few years.  100% Florida OJ will be quite hard to come by in the next 3-5 years.

Unfortunately a disease called greening is about to make citrus a thing of the past in Florida, not cold weather. Selling now is likely a sound choice given the outlook.

Well Kansas is a cold weather school.  Kentucky and Louisville aren't terribly warm either.

But really, kids aren't going to these schools due to weather.  UNC, Duke, Kansas, Kentucky and Louisville are traditionally strong programs lead by Hall of Fame coaches.  The weather might be a nice side benefit, but I think it is pretty low on the list of why prospects make that choice.

Furthermore, just naming national champions is an incomplete picture.  This year, two of the Final Four were from "cold weather" states.  Look below:

2015: WI, MSU
2014: WI, Uconn
2013: Michigan, Syracuse
2012: Ohio State, Kansas (?)
2011: Butler, Uconn
2010: Butler, MSU, WVU (?)
2009: UConn, Nova, MSU
2008: Kansas
2007: OSU
2006: None
2005: Illinois, MSU

Weather hardly seems to be a factor.

MU also offered Emmanuel Malou along with ASU and OSU. Don't know anything about him other than he is 6'9". Anyone have any insight into this offer?

MU is a very attractive school  to recruits, and their parents, and once enrolled kids really enjoy it. If weather is a priority they will self select out of the process.  Many high school  students are looking for a high quality experience in an urban setting and we offer that.

Really like him. Malou is an odd story/path, but he can play.

Australian, but Sudanese.. versatile big F. He declared for the NBA draft a couple of years ago.. probably is 21 now? Was going to prep school out east.. injured, went back to Australia for a year... played at a crap prep school in Iowa... was looking at Southern Idaho.. wound up at Yuba.. Yuba had a personal fav of recent years - Julian Welch.. solid program..

I think with a guy like this you worry about eligibility and the like, but he has the potential to come in and be a impact guy for a HM
Thanks for ruining summer, Canada.

Ha, ha, ha...

Everyone knows North Luzon Institute of Technology is where you want to go.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Jon Rothstein @JonRothstein
2017 guard Markus Howard (Findlay Prep) will take an unofficial visit to Marquette on Saturday, source told @CBSSports. Five-star prospect.

Call me slow, but in less than two months I was able to figure out the significance of Central Luzon Institute of Technology.

Does anyone know if he's in town for an AAU event?  If not, It seems to be good news that he's paying his own way from Arizona.
