Marquette recruit Henry Ellenson won't need surgery on hand

By Jay Sorgi. CREATED Mar 27, 2015
The top recruit for the Marquette men's basketball team won't have to have surgery for his injured left hand.

A source says that Henry Ellenson has opted not to have surgery on the hand after several x-rays.  He will need about 5-7 more weeks for recovery.

According to the source, two different orthopedic doctors looked at the hand and believed it would heal without surgery.

Ellenson, a third-team Naismith High School All-American, led Rice Lake High School to the Division 2 boys basketball finals this year.

He injured his hand in the semifinal round, but played through the injury and led Rice Lake to a win over Greendale.

Ellenson sat out the final. Mount Horeb beat Rice Lake in the final.

He will take part in activities connected to the McDonald's All-American High School game, which he was invited to along with Maryland recruit and Dominican High School's Diamond Stone.  Stone was chosen second-team All-American.

Yes, he will be. But we won't know when until the Big East schedule is announced.

I asked Henry if he was playing in the McDonald's game, he told me he is not.

I was referring to the DePaul game, which is why I mentioned the Big East schedule ;)

Excellent news for sure.

I still am trying to figure out how he broke the hand on the play it happened.  It looked as innocous play as you could imagine, catching an inbound pass.  I've watched the play over and over, and can't figure out how that led to a fractured hand.  Bizzaro injury.

I believe the injury is to the base of his pinkie which is a more fragile than the middle of the hand.  Just a freak injury.
