I don't think Marquette would have been all that much better this year had he stayed.  Maybe .500 in conference.  No NCAA bid.

.500 record in the BE is a NCAA bid unless u choke the non-con away.
I would take the Rick SLU program right now.

Bah, can't tell me the private fights Buzz took every other week to see a signed recruit up until he left never managed to broach that subject.

But the dude loves recruits just like him who had to ride the bus on all of their travel trips.

Or something like that.

And no Haanif, Sacar, Matt, and Traci...

And NO Henry.

Right. Not saying WE aren't better off that Bert left last year, I'm just saying that BERT would have been better off had he stayed another year and been competitive with a good class. Then he'd be in a position to leverage that into a job at Texas or...anywhere other than Va. Tech.

Texas top candidates are Gregg Marshall and Shaka Smart -- and both have heavy interest in the opening, sources told ESPN.

Gosh--I wonder if Mrs. Shaka would let hubby go to Austin from DC area. She wouldn't let him go to Milwaukee.

I think it will be Shaka.

You may be on to something.  VCUInsider is all over the Texas board talking about there is way too much smoke to be no fire.

Observing VCUInsider do his thing at this time every year is something I've come to rather enjoy.

Considering who Texas hired as their football coach to clean things up, not a chance in this world the Buzzard is going to be hired down there.  Texas starting to clamp down on the nonsense.

Too squirmy for UT, my highly placed sources say.

Shaka Smart and Gregg Marshall are the names being floated for Texas right now. I think Buzz Williams would be a great fit there as well.

Buzz has next to no shot imo.  It will be Shaka unless some of the influential boosters have an issue with a black coach (possible serious concern).

Wow, someone other than Goodman talking up Buzz to Texas.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Didn't effect their football coach hire, but maybe boosters have different perspective.

That's actually part of the reason there might be concern.  The boosters may have been reluctantly willing to bring in one minority coach, but may be against both major coaches being minorities.

It's interesting to compare this coaching search to UCLA's last search when UCLA couldn't get any big names (including Shaka, IIRC) interested.  Is Texas now a higher profile program?  Is Texas now a blue blood of recent vintage?

Texas has a better upside IMO.  Some of the limitations on the UCLA program, such as air travel, were documented here last year.

I still think you won't see Shaka or Marshall there.  I think you will see an out-of-nowhere, sitting, successful coach.

I recall laughing at VCUI sider when he said the school was spending money on their facilities.  The company I work for does commercial construction and we have two projects on VCU's campus both for their athletic program.  We will see if it's enough to keep Shaka.

I heard that Shaka denies any interest in MU and that he was interested in UCLA job but did not want to raise his kids in LA.
