Meme Watch list/Four in-Four Out - week of February 26th

Updated Meme watch list
Played in High School

According to Ners, you can't evaluate anything like basketball including talent or strategy unless you played in high school…but if you are the coach of MU and you played at a high level in college, that also doesn't count and you make poor decisions

When did Ners start posting on the board?   Ners

Meme Watch

The initial 2014 Meme tournament was a big hit with the Scoop community, spawning extra meme potential awareness.  Much like analysts keep their eyes on tourny sleepers in the A-10 or Ivy Leagues, etc.....Scoopers are now watching for potential memes for the tournament.  This has created the scrawling Meme Watch when something seems to be reaching critical meme mass

July 1, 2014  LittleWade

Any pornstars in the alumni list?

A habit of sorts that has slowed of late on Scoop is to start or resurface a *Team* Famous Alumni thread.  A more popular subplot is if that schools alumni also contain purveyors of smut and good ole fashion American carnal knowledging on camera for money.  Usually if such a unicorn exists, Keefe finds the pictures....what do you expect from a Zoomie?

When was the internet invented?  Any poster that isn't Warriorchick or Melissasmouth

Narrative Blender

A graphic meme generated in the endless Ners vs anyone not Willie Warrior thread wars of 2015.  Basically, in the continued fighting over Derrick and JjJ amongst Scoopers aligned against Team Ners, those Scoopers accused Team Ners of cherry picking stats and information to support conspiratorial narrative about the MU coaching staff.  So a meme was born to short hand this action and the narrative blender image came with it.

JjJ has to play 25+ minutes a game

Another Ners goal line moving special.  In his quest to be right Ners, while arguing that JjJ is awesome and wildly underutilized, declared that any stats presented showing JjJ had some bad games would only count if he played 25+ minutes in a game.  This set off a wide range of hate scooping that eventually led to a meme generation involving things only counting if they lasted 25+ minutes.

February 1, 2015 when the Why JJJ needs to play 25+ minutes thread was started by Willie Warrior

Teve

Much to the tournament director's* chagrin this meme was created as a result of a typo in putting on the Meme Tournament.  Apparently there is an S in Steve Taylor's name and if you leave it out, people will notice.  As a consequence a core but annoying ( ;D) group of posters continue to refer to Steve Taylor as Teve in posts.  You guys are the best, and yes that should probably be in teal

I have to admit, I still smile each time I read "Teve".

I have no idea why I find it so amusing, but I do.

Well done.

Last Four out

Available a week later
This meme arose in the dark days between Crean's expectedly unexpected departure from MU and immediately following Buzz Williams being hired as HC.  There were those who were comfortable with MU's choice and those who thought it was a terrible idea.  Those in the terrible camp decried the process as well as the outcome.  Chicos was part of the concerned camp, but his big point that became repeated ad nauseam was that Buzz William's was a available a week later and MU could have hired him at their leisure once other candidates were exhausted.  Not sure about that, but I am sure it became a recurring meme on Scoop
April 9, 2008   ChicosBailBonds   15

Creaned/Buzzcut/Boned

This is a mean that has existed for a while, crossed over from dirty badger boards, and has transcended coaches, both at MU and Wisconsin.  Essentially a derogatory term for speculation that a player was asked to leave a program to make room for better talent.  First coined by Becky boards to describe players leaving under Crean, it was then transferred to Buzz.  It became BOned once Wisconsin had a little hedge trimming of their own.

Banners

Almost the same time that Tom Crean blew into town as the head coach for Marquette was the propensity to hang a banner for nearly any achievement.  It was not as frequent as some posters made it out to be, but that didn't matter a meme was create and now anything can result in the banner meme being trotted out.

Buzz’s tie too tight

A Larry Williams controversy special.  Quoted in a newspaper, LW stated that he felt Buzz's tie was too tight and he might snap as some point.  Prolific poster Ners, took amazing exception to this statement and an epic thread was launched

Hologram Al

A twitter meme cross over during the latest MU coaching search melt down.  Hologram Al was an homage to MU great Al McGuire and he was "brought back to live" as a hologram(see Hologram Tupac).  For a time, during the Shaka meltdown, Hologram Al was suggested as MU's next coach.  It turns out he was unavailable and we moved on.

Catholic 7

Gather around kids, once upon a time there were things such as conferences where rivalry and loyalty mattered, but then came the concept of conference realignment(also known as the giant money grab).  In 2012, the conference realignment forced by football money impacted Marquette with the disbandment of the Big East as it was at the time(Syracuse, Pitt and Louisville leaving), forcing some decisions to be made.  As the initial dust started to settle, it became apparent that one path to survival was to form a basketball only league with the 7 basketball only schools remaining in the Big East.  These 7 schools also happened to be private Catholic schools.  So Catholic 7 became a meme when referring to this core group sailing the basketball ship on the conference realignment sea.
December 4, 2012   Aughnanure   16

Students suck

This one is simple, every MU alum believes they were part of the best student section Marquette ever had and all students since suck.  The current students are always under scrutiny of the alumni who "did it better".  Will likely continue for time immemorial

If you're looking for additional suggestions:

Reminded me of myself

In the game thread during Marquette's game against Georgetown, Ners responded to a comment about a Derrick Wilson dunk with "reminded me of myself."  Apparently the irony was lost on Ners - constantly bragging about how great he was in high school, then comparing himself to the player about whom he has used every derogatory adjective in the book.

Second Thoughts

Some posters keep on saying top commited recruits will have second thoughts and will ask for their release because of how terrible we are playing.
Goal is National Championship

Thanks for the backstory on that one.
I always thought it was a play on the old SNL skit where Steve Forbes reads from his "fictional" novel about flashy billionaire playboy Teve Torbes.

It truly is the best time of year if we are talking about the meme bubble, aina?

Excited to see the inclusion of Holo Al. Although his stint was short, he could have brought us the future in terms of success and in terms of that way Skynet brought the future in the Terminator moves. I, for one, welcome our holographic overlords.

2015 Meme Tournament Watchlist

"biting my ankles"

A term that Sultan uses to describe those who wait on his posts, then consult their notebooks to see if they can find anything that they can construe as being contrary in one of Sultan's previous posts so that Sultan can be attacked as inconsistent.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

Quote from: muguru
No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Scrolling "Meme watch list"
Sorry if this is in the bracket already, or if it's something <40's get, but shouldn't the 'meme watch list' be on the meme watch list?

Also, would've loved to see Juan A's quote earlier this year get some traction but i can't remember it.  'no offense to anyone..', 'not calling anyone out...', 'no disrespect...'?  i think it was the latter.  either way the community didn't pay it proper respect.

I refuse to accept the "typo" explanation.  Teve Torbes is the reason for the season.

Fortunately, I don't know many Teves.
