Interesting. The story says that Brokaw and NBC have known for years that Williams's account of the incident was BS and told him to stop repeating it. Now that Williams has been caught Brokaw is all over him - but he evidently didn't want to be the whistleblower. Convenient outrage on Tom's part, aina?

That might be the case, but it's hard to tell from the story exactly how Brokaw knew.  Did he have clear proof or documentation of the lie, or did someone he trusts simply tell him Williams was lying?  IMHO, the answer would determine whether he should have come out and blown the whistle, or simply told Williams to do the right thing.

FWIW, I was never a big Brokaw fan, so I am not defending him - just pointing out something that isn't clear.....

Not much for Brokaw either, but this always made me laugh.

Dan Rather got the heave ho for less.

Over the years I've actually liked Williams the best of the establishment anchors.

Disagree....Rather got exactly what he deserved

Rabble rabble rabble.

The man who reads stuff on the TEEE VEEE got caught in a lie.

If we held that standard to every mouthbreather that reads a teleprompter for a living (both left and right), the entire industry would be out of work.

And that's the problem......

I have no use for NBC Nightly News, but what a turd.

His daughter is flat out box though. I'd like a press conference where he's admitting to being a jagoff and his daughter stands next to him, crying, in a bikini.
Thanks for ruining summer, Canada.

Any who, he's taking a leave of absence. In the meantime my man, Lester, is taking over. Katie Couric wants in on the action, but she is despicable and should go away forever.

This is why I disagree when people say he is merely a face and reads the news.  He is the managing editor and decides what goes on the news.  That's an important piece.  What is reported vs what is not is what bothers many people.  Too many things are buried for political reasons or ideological biases so as not to harm their peeps.  It's a powerful spot.

I've never thought Williams didn't "seem to support our military so much."

However this was really dumb.

I've never thought Williams didn't "seem to support our military so much."

However this was really dumb.

A bad day for Williams is his deli not having the right Beluga or his Dom being slightly under chilled.

I have interacted with the press in the Sandbox on an informal basis and you can see how they live vicariously through what is going on outside the wire. As JTACs we never had embedded journalists but conventional units did and I know many combat correspondents felt the sting of battle while taking fire along with the unit they were covering.

The difference, I think, is that most embedded correspondents were print media and were there to gain insight over an extended period of time. Electronic media are there more for sound bites with gripping footage in the background. There are many outstanding journalists embedded in units engaged in ops who share the risks and hazards for the sake of reporting what is happening - their presence is crucial to the freedoms we enjoy in the US, UK, France, Italy, Denmark, etc...

Guys like Williams have outsized egos and when they see normal everyday American, British, Canadian, and Australian men and women rising to the challenge in extraordinary ways on a routine basis it must both humble him and stick in his craw. I am not a shrink but how else can you explain his bizarre "confabulation?"

In any event, I hope we have seen the last of Williams. You never, ever steal the laurels that rightfully belong to another. That is a foundational plank of the Warrior Ethos - a brotherhood Williams admires but really does not understand as demonstrated through his "confabulation." While he says he respects the men and women who defend this nation he does nothing but cheapen their sacrifice by claiming participation in something that would likely stain his silk underwear.

So they're thinking he'll grow some honesty and integrity in six months?

I am simply amazed at the left's obsession with Fox News. I don't know what I'm missing here. I'm right of center, and I haven't watched five minutes of it since before college, and neither have any of my right of center friends. Most of us don't even have cable.

But all I see in any comment section on the internet about the media is Fox News this, Fox News that. On and on and on.
