SOTG
« on: December 19, 2014, 09:42:02 PM »
Ok. I know SOTG should come at game's end, but the Anti-Heros are making it hard to watch the end of this game.

No one has distinguished himself as a clear cut SOTG but I'm going with the big Fish again. He's been perfect from the field and otherwise fun to watch. Nice to see Teve have some confidence and a couple dunks. Du needs to be under control more but he's going to be SOTG for many games to come in his Warrior career.

Hard to not go Luke since he hasn't even missed a free throw yet. This game really wasn't fair though.

But I really like what Steve did tonight. Making jumpers, sweet post moves.

Steve, Juan and Luke all played fabulous (also Carlino with 8 assists), but I say give it to Juan for the complete floor game, 13 points, 7 rebounds, assists and only 5 shots.  Great efficiency.  Also, he has been consistently solid all the way around and hasn't been given the nod as SOTG yet.

You must have forgotten how efficient Luke was.  he missed none from the floor and 2 of 8 from the line.

Juan.  Team high in rebounds (again) and a bunch of assists (again).  Plus, in game where nobody really needs to be a stud for us to still win by 30, I'm pulling in past performance and saying our most consistent player this year deserves his first SoG win.

It is good to have options like this.   Any of them are worthy.   Lets not somehow turn a SOTG thread in a blowout with several good candidates into yet another yelling match.

Could obviously go to Luke or Juan, but I liked Taylor tonight.

Very active, two extremely nice entry passes to Luke, hit a 3, made a little jumper from the FT line, 6 boards, couple of steals, missed only one shot.

I always love Juan, but with the Fox Sports 1 guys throwing Luke out there as the National Player of the Week I need to go with him this game to keep the momentum going. Obviously I am very disappointed in Steve only going 7 for 8 from the floor to make our centers a combined less-than-perfect 15 of 16.

The team hit 69.4% of their two-point shots. Nice.
The www.valueaddsports.com analysis of basketball, football and baseball players are intended to neither be too hot or too cold - hundreds immerse themselves in studies of stats not of interest to broader fan bases (too hot), while others still insist on pure observation (too cold).

Had a Christmas party and I forgot to record the game prior leaving the house so by the time I remembered the second half was about to tip off.

In a second half in which it was a blow out and the game often times got out of control, I have to say I was most impressed with Carlino as he always seemed to settle the team down, made quality decisions tonight with his distribution, and was the senior leader this team needs.

It's hard to give it to Luke or Steve when our opponents couldn't even attempt to defend them.  Great games for both but again you have to consider the competition.  At 6'1" I could play the five against a ten and under team and dominate like those two did tonight.

KPom Oratings: Big Fisch=183, Juando=169, Steve=153, Matt=154. With Juan in the game MU outscored AAM 56-27. With Luke:47-34 with some rugged play by the guards. Steve: 65-37. Matt: 54-33.

I am still with Juan because of the point gap as the team was playing its best on both ends. Screams "Glue Guy of the Game". This game was never in doubt no matter the player, but the team played its best under Juan's play and leadership.

Come on! Let us know who the SOTG is?

This is an exceptionally tough one.  I've narrowed it down to Luke or Juan, but Steve and Matt aren't bad options either.  When the team as a whole shoots 61% from the floor, and 85% on FTs, it's going to be a tough choice.

OK, I'm going with Juan, because cumulatively he's been consistent, and valuable this year, but hasn't gotten any MUScoop SoTG love.

Good pick with Juan. I only saw the last 30 minutes and statistically he may not have had the best game, but I'm pretty sure he was the best player last night on both ends of the court.

Has Juan been SOTG before?

Yup.  Once last year and once the year before.

Thank you. I'm hoping he will receive the honor a few more times this year.

No problem with the Juan selection.  I think all of our front court guys played well.

I think Luke deserved it more, but I can see how Juan could get it. My issue is that it's supposed to be "stud of the game," not based on cumalitive consistency on the season, or not receiving any love before. When you state this, it seems like you are making an excuse as to why you picked him over Luke.

While I think it's great Luke is shooting such a high percentage, most of his shots in this game had a VERY low degree of difficulty based on their vicinity to the basket and the poor defenders guarding him.  And most of those buckets came on great assists in which the pass had a higher degree of difficulty than the actual shot.

No problem with the Jaun pick. My one observation is that I've never seen an MU player average over 20 in a 2 game stretch and shoot 90%! That's inaane. I know it's temporary but that is downright awesome. Even elite big guys rarely out up those numbers against cupcakes.

Bottom line.  Luke committed 4 fouls against a cupcake opponent in 22 minutes.  He's a very good player and makes MU much better.  But Wojo will certainly be coaching him up today.  That simply cannot happen.

Fischer goes 8-8, 22 points and grabs 6 rebounds and was clearly the best player in the floor. He could possible be national player of the week, but just can't quite overcome Juan Anderson.

And Juan couldn't overcome Steve. Consider the system flawed.

Personally would have gone with Luke, but Juan was awesome in the first half and his stats could have been better if he played in garbage time.  Seemed like he was the one player who did sit in the last 5-10 minutes (along with Cohen who fouled out).

Since the mods came up with the award, and ultimately determine who receives it, I think they have a pretty good handle on what "it's supposed to be."

Let's not overthink our relatively meaningless award.

C,mon now. Juan played fine but look was near perfect. This feels like a 2cd grade T-ball team where the coaches try to be nice and give the gameball to every kid at least once. Give to the player who had the biggest impact(clearly luke) not the guy who if he didnt make FT's would have more than 10. We should almost have vote each game to determine the STOG. Pretty sure luke would win.

Honestly think Juan impacted the game more. He held their best player to 3-10 shooting. And one of those 3 FGs was a breakaway dunk that Juan wasn't on the court for. Combine that with the rebounds, points, and assists? Was a studly performance.

But so was Luke's. And Steve's. And Carlino's. This is a good problem to have. Should be all smiles in Warrior nation.

I do know, Newsie is right on you knowing ball.
