And that was a textbook force by Matt.   Ah, well, part of the package.

And 2 WTF moments:

Duane making DUMB foul 35 feet from basket on Valentine

Carlino bombing a 22' 3 with a man in his grill 7 seconds into shot clock.

What? LOTS of people on this board pointed out last season how so many of the great teams around the nation only go 7-8 deep.

And the smart ones pointed out that we are not deep.

Is there anymore perfect evidence about what this team will be all season than the win vs GT, close loss vs MSU, close win vs NJIT, loss vs UN-O.

Just a complete example of: they'll lose to teams they shouldn't and beat teams they shouldn't

You go 8-9 deep typically...not 11 like Buzz did last year.  Not a good idea to go 7 deep when you are undersized and playing back to back nights..

Pretty satisfied with the effort tonight, for the most part.  Duane is going to be a stud.

Would have liked to see a bit more of Deonte in the 2nd half.

Not bad. Disappointed obviously with the loss but they played a lot better than I figured they would. I'm encouraged.

This game is great experience for our young guys. Down by 16 and they did not give up. Never had any expectations of winning this game. When Luke joins the team we should win our fare share. We should have a good returning class to join our fine recruiting class next season.

True but I'm ok with that considering it's his 6th game.  I like the confidence and aggression he showed.

These guys can play. They are going to have some nights when games like this go in our favor.

I did too.   But when he is turning the ball over and not playing good defense, it is time to put somebody else in.

This. Much like the OSU game, it could have ballooned, but the players/coach wouldn't let it.

All in all, lots of positives can be taken from this game.  Good effort on the part of the guys.  MSU had a great night shooting the ball, some of which was the result of our defense and them getting open looks, but they also knocked down a lot of contested shots.  We had a lot of shots roll around and out.

Great signs from Duane and Deonte.  Steve was much better tonight.  Juan looks like he'll be a consistent and effective player this year.  Get Luke in the mix.  More Duane.  Less Derrick.  We could be good by February.

Agree with this take, however, Duane has averaged 32 minutes last 4 games. Can't get much more, unless you want him to roll all 40.

That's a good point...he could probably go another few.  He looks like a guy who can play all day.

I'm a little concerned with Deonte's conditioning though.  He looks a little out of shape.  Not quite as explosive as last year - and yes, I know he's had some nice highlight reel dunks this season.
