New Arena Location Revealed?

http://urbanmilwaukee.com/2014/10/08/murphys-law-10-reasons-to-build-bucks-arena-on-wisconsin-ave/

Look at this article for the reasoning, perfect location for MU. And the Bucks owner was pretty coy with his responses

Marc Lasry was asked today if #Bucks had bought Grand Avenue Mall. He smiled and said "Whoever bought it probably got a pretty great deal."

I have been hearing that a deal is basically in place, but that they are waiting for the lame duck legislative session for approval.  Walker, Barrett are in agreement.

This dude can't help but make sly (or in the case of the draft, blatant) remarks about what the organization is doing.

Get the arena built as fast as possible so when he torpedoes this organization by going full Jerry Jones it won't have a negative impact on MUBB.

Now people might start to understand why Lasry-Edens overpaid for the Bucks... there was a real estate venture involved here that had minimal value to anyone except for them.

In other words, they buy the Bucks knowing that Grand Avenue can be purchased dirt cheap. They move the arena there, and the ancillary real estate - of which they own a good portion - skyrockets in value.

It's a classic lesson in Hedly Lamarr Land-Snatching.

The Grand?!?!? Man, that is kinda sad if true.  The Grand Ave Mall is the *only* mall in Milwaukee.  By Milwaukee, I don't mean the MSA, I mean city proper.

When I go to other cities, I'm often in their downtown areas, and almost every city I can think of has a mall downtown

"Right now the university buses its students to Golden Eagles games at the Bradley Center,..."  What!   In the "old" days, we walked to the games.  Up hill both ways, barefoot in the snow! ;)

To be fair, we were also drinking heavily, which made being barefoot easier.

I'm not sure Grand Avenue qualifies as a mall really.  I mean, it was nice in its heyday, but it's pretty junky right now.

I guess I'm not sure why the area around the arena will skyrocket in value... if that's what you're suggesting. Has the area around the current Bradley Center exploded?

Lasry said they didn't buy it.

https://twitter.com/danshaferMKE/status/527149244013359107

The area a little southeast of there (2nd and Michigan) is gaining some support. Still west of the river, and close enough to tie in to the Third Ward.

Just because they didn't buy it, that doesn't mean it wasn't purchased for the arena.  Will have to wait and see.

Completely true.  Ownership has been a revolving door for years, and the lack of stability has prevented any effort to open up the enclosed mall (which are starting to fall out of vogue even in the suburbs) to the street.

You're actually crying over the Grand Ave Mall? Wow. The place is a dump. It was beautiful when it opened...but that was many, many years ago.

It will not be missed.

Dump or not, people don't spend their money at the Grand Ave. Not when you have Mayfair Mall, Brookfield Square, Southridge and the Bayshore Center.

There is a better chance of the "mall" surviving now than 2 months ago. I imagine only the boston store part gets torn down and they try to revive the beautiful part of the mall/shops. The sad part about the mall is the state that it is in now.

Ummmm whoever said they overpaid? Worst case scenario is the NBA will buy them back at $25m over cost. They had a great deal and everyone knows it. A NBA team just sold for $2B, in a league with revenue sharing, monopolies, etc. It was always a great deal that sold below market value due to Kohl wanting the team to stay in Milwaukee.

Memphis is larger than Milwaukee and it does not have a downtown mall...

Where will I be able to buy stencil-sprayed t-shirts and printer ink when I want to pay twice as much as everywhere else?

On a serious note, it would be really cool if they could build in a food court / roster of restaurants that made it a lunchtime destination for the downtown crowd and gave solid food options for games at night.
