Awesome!

I don't think he will have trouble recruiting in the future, this year will be interesting but in 2 years they should be right in there, not only the Big East Champ but hopefully beyond.
Nice article, good insight.

May it work out as well as this article hints it will.

Love SI articles. Always fantastically written and well researched.

I like Wojo's recruiting style. He won't get every kid he wants, but the ones he gets will be high quality, loyal, and ready to work

Great read.

I only have one question:

How do you play a daily pick-up game to 120 points, but lose at the buzzer?

I particularly like this from Burton:

“We’ve tried to make defense our strength, so offense will come from our defense pressuring the ball, getting turnovers, making the other team speed up so they will become more uncomfortable."

We desperately missed those easy break-outs last year, when we played with all the speed of a plowhorse stuck in muck.

I'd love to see a fast-paced, take-no-prisoners style. It will require all of our guys to be in optimal condition because we don't have very good depth. But really, what choice do we have? It's the only way we can win games.

The information on Carlino's recruitment stood out most - a guy with his talent and no transfer restrictions probably could have gone to a number of programs with higher ceilings for next year.  The fact he committed to a rookie head coach before hearing from other visitors speaks volumes to me....and the text message to Wojo almost brought a tear to my eye.

Are these 120 Points games also auditions for the walk on spots?

This quote from the article should contain your answer...

"Wojciechowski walking out in a sweat-soaked T-shirt, having just played the daily, full-court game to 120 points with his assistants and other staffers."
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Right there with you 82.  40 minutes of hell from the 3 guard line.  My only worry is that both Juan and STjr will need to be very careful to avoid foul trouble as both will be playing 30 plus minutes in any meaningful game prior to Luke'a eligibility.

Thanks for your response.  I know at Duke there have been Ball Managers (Not sure what is correct term) that have become walk ons.

I wonder how MU gets their Walk Ons.

Could also imply that Scott merit is invited to play

The pick up games are between all the coaches and managers. They mix up the teams and play straight to 120 no breaks.

But can the girls coaches play too? I've just always wondered how close the two programs are including the coaches.

Does the look on Wojo's face say, "WTF is this chicken thing doing here?" to anyone else?

From what I know the girl's coaches don't play, but the girls managers do play sometimes if they need guys.

Two thoughts:

1. Game like this seem like they would be a blast to watch. Just imagine the intensity the Wojo, Diener and others would bring. So, how about finding a way to turn them into a fundraiser for some local organization? I'd contribute to some org or fund in order to watch.

2. Imagine either one of our previous two coaches playing in such a game. Haha hehe. The thought of Buzz or Crean actually needing to hit a shot or face up to Diener or slap the floor as Wojo brings the ball up court...oh, how it makes me giggle.
