8. Marquette 50.00
43. Virginia Tech 37.58
74. Indiana 24.70

 ;D

When I was creating list one of the first things I thought was "how long until someone points VT and Indiana out?"

Cannot ever complain about a #8 class.

I will add this, I do not know how the 247 metrics work, but many of these measuring sticks have a huge weighting factor to size of class.  I recall about 20 years a go a mid major in one of these types of rankings had the #1 class in the country becuase they had 8? signees, despite the fact that they were 2 and 3 star players.  A good class nonethelss for that type of program but #1??!!.

What I like to do for myself is to simply add the stars and divided by the number of players to get a more true representation of the qulaity of the class.  given many of these metrics a class of 7 2 stars or 14 points is better than a class of 3 4 star players = 12.  i whole haertedly disagree.

So forwhatever its worth, if and I still beleive recruiting to be very fluid and a player is not on campus until he is on campus, but should Henry Ellenson chose to matriculate at Marquette University my own method is.... 3 4 stars equals 12 points add 1 5 star to be 17, divided by 4 and the result is 4.25.  A more true representation of the quality of the class regardless of size.  not sure how that stacks up against the other but I will take a 4.25 every day of the week!!

247 does a pretty good job of counteracting that. As the size of the class goes up, the value of each individual player goes down slightly. This means that 1 five star will be a better class than 5 2 stars. There is obviously a small amount of value added for having a larger class, but it places more value on the quality than the quantity of the recruit.

So I've been hearing a lot from both scoopers and recruiting experts that Marquette would be a top 5 class if they secured Henry. I decided to see if that would be true.

Using 247's class calculator, I found that securing Henry would bump our recruiting class to number 3, behind only Arizona and Louisville. Pretty sweet. However, that would only be with the current landscape of 2015 recruiting. A lot of the big fish don't commit until the spring. Where would we land after all the other programs got there own big recruits?

Utilizing 247's class calculator and crystal ball predictions, I found what our class rank would be should all of the crystal ball predictions as they are now end up being correct. Obviously, there are some major holes in this experiment, the main one being that all the current crystal ball predictions will not come true. This is just for fun.

The short answer is no. But it is still a damn good class. It comes in at 8th, good for top in the BEast. Below is all the data I gathered, BEast schools are bolded.

I like the strength of the BEast if this turns out to be true.  4 (40% of our league) in the Top 26.  By comparison, the Big 10 has 4 in the Top 29.

I do as well. When the worst class in your conference is ranked #81 (Seton Hall)...you are doing pretty well. Most of the other power conferences has a team or two that isn't even ranked on this list. (In order to make the list they had to have one of the top 310 players per 247 either committed or projected to go to them)

I was nervous at first when I saw the AAC had two teams ranked in the top 6. But then I looked at the rest of their conference. We have our entire conference in the top 81. They only have seven in that same group.

Statistically, I am not sure how this is done. But what excites me is the apparent very small gap between 1 and 15. We're really among the best in the country if we get Henry.

I'm truly electrified by this and if we can get the coaching to match what's coming in, we're baaaaaaccccckkkk!

Feed yourself.

I do.  I don't ask others to research stuff on the internet that I could easily find myself.

I notice you haven't even thanked TAMU Ellenson for answering your question, yet.  But why would you?   That's what he's here for, right?
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

I appreciate it brother Ellenson. But this stuff is no trouble. Keeping track of recruiting trends and amateur analysis is a hobby of mine/part of my job. When part of your job involves convincing the men's basketball team to do events and promotions that they often don't feel like doing, you need to keep up good relationships. For me, that means knowing more about college basketball than they do. Not the actual gameplay, but just about everything else.

I would expect the Clampetts to be low. New coach and new style. I actually think the Hillbilly did well poaching our recruits.

Indiana is one that blows my mind. If Tanned Tommy isn't on the hot seat yet, he will be very soon. In fact, if this doesn't change, he won't be the tanned one. He'll be Toasted Tommy and his father-in-law will have to work to get him employed at Western Kentucky!

At the rate things are going, Indiana football will surpass Indiana basketball as the most successful major sport on campus!

Here's a weekend update. The biggest upward risers are Illinois, VCU, and South Carolina. Illinois jumps into the top 10 after becoming the leader in the Jalen Coleman sweepstakes. VCU moves to #51  by taking the lead in the race for Aric Holman. South Carolina makes their way onto the list by stealing ESPN 100 forward Chris Silva out from under Seton Hall's nose.

The biggest falls were UNLV, LSU, and Seton Hall. UNLV was the previous leader for Jalen Coleman and Seton Hall fell off the list completely. The pirates were favored to get Chris Silva before South Carolina locked him in. LSU is still in the top 15 but fall from the #2 spot. They were the leaders for Antonio Blakeney but Kentucky now has a solid lead in the polls.

Blakeney committing to Lousvillr and then quickly de-committing is an eye-opener.

Translation…when he committed to Louisville, Cal got on the phone and called all his people at Nike etc, and made sure they made his life a living hell and how poor his chances would be going forward…financially and event wise.

He then "reconsidered" and will visit all Nike schools…likely ending up with Calipari.

I've got a pretty good idea on the relationship between AAUs and college coaches/recruitments. But how far "down the rabbit hole" does the relationship between shoe companies and recruitments go?

Here's an updated list. Had some commits, some crystal balls changed, and some rankings changed. Creighton fell pretty hard after losing out on McQuaid (Michigan State), Roosevelt Smart (Loyola Chicago), and Desure Buie (crystal ball changed to Manhattan). We have also been passed up by Michigan State (McQuaid commited), Kansas (gained the lead for Marcus LoVett), and Oklahoma State (gained the lead for Elijiah Thomas). If things stand as they are (they won't) we won't even have a top 10 class.
