What's astounding is you get that much house for 2.4 bills. Different deal on the west coast.

It is also higher in several other locations in the US. Go international and it become outrageous. Don't really care, just feeds an ego. There is always someone with more and many more with less. The marginal value declines significantly once rain is not  falling on your head and there is food in the kitchen. After that most of what we buy is not that significant.

What is significant is being alive and enjoying the gift. Unfortunately it is impossible to really understand that statement until you have been close to losing your life.  To many times we trade stress, time an many difficulties for money. Much better to inherit or hit the lottery.

He is suggesting that imparting values loses can lose meaning with the lavishing of material "luxuries." His use of the term 'ransom' for the case you cite is rather apt. Frankly, he is spot on correct.

People in the developed world, and the US in particular, can be very mercenary about acquiring possessions. Things are not inherently bad but crass materialism has become vulgar. The real question is what are we devaluing by placing so much importance on material wealth?

I should think that a Jesuit education would have demanded a certain amount of reflection on this.

Material possessions can lessen values. I have seen it happen many times. If you can offer the proper values and reflection, then that won't happen.

Do the Williams do this? I have no idea. Again, I will leave it between them and God. I don't think they deserve to have over 100 posts of people criticizing them for having a nice home and how they may or may not be raising their children.

Point taken. Would prefer the discussion stay with the concepts and not about Buzz or his family. Maybe I need a philosophy page.

Come and listen to my story about a man named Buzz
A poor basketball coach barely kept the clothes on his back
And then one day he was shooting at some buckets
.. and oozing from the ground, Tom Crean elects to leave
Hoosiers that is.... basketball... hillbillies

Well the first thing you know, ole Buzz is a millionaire
The kinfolk said, "Buzz move away from there"
Said the North Suburbs is the place you oughta be...
So they loaded up the truck and moved to Mequon... Hills that is...
Swimmin pools.... buckets

The Mequon Hillbillies.........

Home price slashed by $350K.  Maybe the squirmy stench is hard to get rid of and people are unable to ignore it as they walk in the door.

I'll be at that house as long as they'll have me.  (3 months of no payments maybe? )

He'll have a hard time selling it.  Despite being very large, it is not particularly well build or well designed.

Hopefully that stench is from one of the Scoop Faithful leaving an Upper Decker in the Master Sh1tter.

No problem for Buzz. He got an unbelievable contract at Virginia Tech. He really beat VT down and got his way on the deal.

Exactly. If he can't sell the house and ends up giving it to charity (Little Sisters of the Squirmy?), he still will have more money coming in over a two-year span than most of us (present company included) will have made in our lifetimes.

Couldn't disagree more with the bolded sentence.

People who inherit fortunes or win lotteries have a different set of problems. They will never know the satisfaction that is achieved by earning success(at whatever level) as opposed to having it given to them.

She downsized when she started dating you, ainal?

I would like you and other Scoopers to gift me money. Remember, the per person gift tax exclusion is enormous on a federal level. Help a guy have more $. Send it to me. Thanks in advance everyone.
