Hallice Cooke (Oregon State)
« on: April 22, 2014, 09:09:51 AM »
http://www.oregonlive.com/beavers/index.ssf/2014/04/point_guard_hallice_cooke_to_t.html

Watched this kid for three years in my back yard and he has every tangible and intangible quality to be a strong high major guard. Did well to improve physically in his one year in Corvallis and Robinson eventually couldn't keep him out of the starting five. Losing Mayo and Wilson, returning Wilson and Dawson and Johnson it may be nice to have a proven Division I commodity coming off redshirt to balance out the 1-3 positions, especially if Noskowiak travels elsewhere.

This is good stuff:

"The Pac-12 All-Freshmen Honorable Mention selection was the conference's second-best three-point shooter at 45.6 percent. At one point, he made a three-pointer in 13 consecutive games.

Cooke enjoyed perhaps his best Beavers performance in a Feb. 2 win over UCLA. He netted 20 points on 7-of-9 shooting,...."
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

Sure, I'll take him.

With all the other transfers suggested here, that will bring our roster numbers to approximately 122.

Seriously, he definitely sounds worth looking into. Thanks for the link and info.

Sounds like MoAck 2.0.

I'd be happy with that pick up

Difference being about eight inches and a legitimate physical frame to be a penetration threat. Cooke bounces between the one and two and MU will need versatility like that. Dawson is a 1. Wilson is more a 2/1. Johnson is more a 3/2. If Noskowiak stays away it may not be terrible for Wojo to scoop up a kid who's already played DI guard minutes than try and land a prep PG prospect.

There is no reason Dawson could not play the two.

We may have a great chance now with Wojo. The Duke connection with Bob Hurley Son Booby Jr. going thru the Duke program.

Well, we still don't know if he can play the 1. Seriously. Mostly through no fault of his own, he has just about no college resume, and he wasn't even close to a top-100 recruit. Like so many others, Dawson is a big "We'll See."

Can we stop with the Duke stuff? Did everything Crean do relate to Izzo? Did Everything Buzz do relate to Crean?

Aircraftcarrier makes a good valid point.  Hurley, Sr. is highly likely to think well of the Duke program.  Wojo has a long association with Duke.  That is likely to transfer over to Wojo during his tenure at MU.  It has nothing to do with whether what Wojo does relates to Coach K.  It has to do with how a coach at an important source of talent now views the HC at MU.

Are we going to start a thread for every transfer and how this would fit on our Roster?

Does scoop have enough bandwidth?

Yes on the height, but the impact Mo had on the team was decent in his first year and valuable by the end of his MU career.
Rare that transfers can continue to make an impact to a program and Mo's was a very positive one. The hope is there for Cooke if he suits up for the Blue and Gold.

+1000

He has no local ties, no WI ties even for that matter, a Jersey City NJ kid, who chose a Pac 12 school and according to what I could find, his finalists before choosing Oregon St included Richmond, St. Joe's, and Xavier.

So why should we speculate about him joining MU other than there's nothing else going on the rumor mill and he is a "free agent" with only 300 plus other D-1 schools he could be choosing instead.

Yes. This is a Marquette basketball forum. We are Marquette basketball fans. This is what we do.

I do try to save some bandwidth by creating single forums that compile all the information. You can find my graduate transfer list here! http://www.muscoop.com/index.php?topic=43848.0

Does scoop have enough bandwidth?

Last month, our busiest ever, we used 1.47% of our allotted bandwidth.   So yes, we can handle a discussion of every transfer.

What was the bandwidth spike on the day Buzz quit?

You're the same guy who said sources told you a month ago that Marquette was under NCAA investigation, right? Only then didn't a compliance officer from Marquette come to Scoop and call your charade simply "unjust rumors and absolutely not true?"  :D Clown :D

With Wojo as our coach, there is a connection to Cooke. Also, I've started a thread about only two transfer possibilities since the coaching change with one of them inching closer to a MU uniform. We'll see on the second one.
