IU's Top Recruiter Leaving for Louisville
« on: April 21, 2014, 09:56:13 PM »

per Scout's Evan Daniels

"IU assistant coach Kenny Johnson was the guy who secured Noah Vonleh, Troy Williams, Robert Johnson, etc. Could also give him some credit for Oladipo, since he coached him in AAU when he committed to Indiana.

Another problem for Tom Crean."

Tan Tommy's collar just got a little tighter....

Think it's pretty safe to say Indiana is no longer a blue blood. Louisville is not considered a blue blood, probably could though, but is by far more prestigious right now. I think this will be Crean's last year barring a miracle.

Their recruiting class doesn't have anyone with Vonlah's talent, although Blackmon is quite good.

He tweeted his resignation, but TC didn't read it.

If crean was producing results that met the expectations of the fanbase, the athletic department would have no problem reaching into its back pocket and throwing whatever was needed at the assistant to keep him happy.

Of course, he may not have left for more money. Maybe he wanted a chance to win a NC....

I can't believe it took you guys this long.  This has been in the works for two weeks.  Basically a bidding war between Maryland and Louisville.

Associate Head Coaches are Buckley and McClain, #1 and #2

Johnson was an assistant and the recruiting coordinator...the #3 coach.  As the #3, he made about $200K a year at IU...he will get a big pay raise and promotion with his new gig.

He leaves for Louisville and replaces their Associate Head coach, Kevin Keatts...their #1.  He got a promotion.
