Time to party like it's 2029....15 years left
« on: April 18, 2014, 01:55:14 PM »
UN says we have 15 years left to curb emissions or we are "serially doomed" (their words).  Came out yesterday.  Time to party

I know when they said in 1989 we had 10 years, I partied like it was 1999 and Prince helped out.  1982 they also put out a date of 20 years (which was shortened 7 years later in '89), but I was still a teenager and partying anyway, so I missed it.

Before someone calls me a denier, I believe in warming....and cooling....and warming....and cooling.  Climate changes, all the time.  I also believe humans are PART of the cause.  I have solar panels on the house.  Etc, etc.

Time to start partying...again...especially as competitive nations don't reform and we're left holding the bag.  Awesomeness.

I never chalked you up to being a science denier, Chicos.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised that you believe that you're smarter than 99.5% of scientists.

99.5% of scientists do NOT believe that we are "serially doomed" in 15 years if we don't curb emissions.

As for science "denial", questioning and understanding the "issues" and agendas is important. Science "changes" quite often.
Thanks for ruining summer, Canada.

(I think you mean to have an "e" at the end of each of those words...could be wrong though)

Not a science denier, my dad was a scientist.  As my dad would tell me often, however, don't confuse science with politics because when politics creep in, the science is abused.  He was right.  Science, like stats, has a wonderful way of being taken by certain people pushing certain agendas and distorting or flat out omitting things.  So no, I have no problem with science.

The problem I have with it is the gloom and doom BS messaging.  Record year of hurricanes coming scream the headlines, act now.  Ends up being a record low year.  1982 UN says we have 20 years left.  1989 they say we have 15 years left.  2014 now it's 15 years left.   At some point in 2015, if you believed what Al said, the coasts would be several feet further under water based on his statements in the 1990s.  Let's just say I'm not worried about his predictions, or his several million degrees statement on the core of our planet.

No, I believe in science, I don't believe the blowhards using it to whip up a bunch of crap.  What ends up happening is people fail to believe any of it because the dire predictions don't come true.  I get why they do it, just like they say grandma is going to lose her medicare, its to scare people into action.

No!  More windfarms that act like cuisinarts on birds and more solar plants that incinerate them as they fly over.

I agree...give those plants, trees, etc that require carbon to live.

Besides, I like larger crop yields, and warm weather does that.   That way Napier doesn't have to go starving at night.

First we have to make sure to have the Feds go in and round up the cattle and imprison some folks...so they can get the land to build the solar plants.  Priorities.

Uhhhh....does the Superbar now allow political threads?  Or did the mods just give Chicos free reign because they don't really want to moderate anything anymore?

Thought you were against gov't giveaways. You know, pay your own way. Maybe that's just for people though. I see you now expect the gov't to support cattle.
