3rd Assistant
« on: April 12, 2014, 05:20:26 PM »
What direction would you go here?   What do we need most?

Game planning/ x and o sage  or Chicago, etc. recruiting ties guy or young guy without connections yet but a player's coach?

I'm guessing Wojo is a good x and o guy after a decade with K.  Plus he seems like a smart guy.   Carrawell knows the b-ball program but has never recruited.

Think Wojo needs a big city recruiter like Bo found with that Akron assistant he hired on staff.

Need more recruiters.  Gotta find an Isaac Chew equivalent.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I thought Phelps was hired because of his recruiting ability more than his x's and o's. It's too bad Jimmy Boylan isn't available. He would be a great fit.

Thought Phelps was hired for his zone defense.   ;)

Sounds like Phelps has some national connections.

There's got to be some mid major assistant at a chicago area college who's tied in.

As the third assistant?  No.
You actually have a degree from Marquette?

No...and after reading many many psosts from people on this board that do...I have to say I'm MUCH better off, if this is the type of "intelligence" a degree from MU gets you. It sure is on full display I will say that.

There have been some recent posters for whom that could very well have been an honest question.

Issue going to keep wainwright around?

He should for one year as wainwright has been around the last few years and that knowledge can help with the transition.

If Wojo wants to keep Wainwright for a year could be as DBO or a  special assistant.  No idea what the limitations on a special assistant are.

Possibly another former NBA player, but not Grant Hill or Shane Battier.  This one would have some D1 and NBA assistant coaching experience.

Brunson's name was on Twitter in regards to the Marquette job, so I guess that's why I say it's a possibility.  Don't know anything beyond that.

Not sure Brunson is a realistic candidate. With his son a highly regarded recruit, it would be sketchy if he became an assistant.

Why?  He's been on the staffs of the University of Hartford and the University of Virginia along with his NBA assistant experience.  He's had player development experience as well.  He has as much or more experience than most college assistants on the bench and that doesn't take into account his playing career at Temple and professional basketball.

Larry Brown hired Danny Manning's father as an assistant coach. There were rumblings by other schools but I don't believe any rules were broken.
