Luck is probably part of it. He's made some good bets.

But what he is saying is, you don't even have to be lucky to get rich. You just have to be patient. And he's right. Its common sense

I took my first aviation bonus and stuck the whole thing into Berkshire Hathaway shares back in 1986. Share price was around $2,000. Most guys went out and bought Vette's and Z cars with their bonus while I continued to drive the Honda Accord I brought back from Japan.

That took some discipline on your part.  No way I would have that.  Good for you.

My wife was very disciplined. She would have skinned me alive if I blew $25,000 in 1985 dollars on a car. Not that I wasn't the Man of the House, mind you...

A shares. I bought about 12 shares back in 1985 with my pilot bonus. There was an uptick in value over the years. I have never attended a shareholder meeting but I met Mr. B twice when my wife was at the Gates Foundation. Pretty certain he doesn't remember me.

Well done. Individual stocks scare me. Give me an index fund every time.

Can't get much safer than Berkshire though.
