1964 Milwaukee Classic ashtray
« on: June 08, 2013, 11:58:34 AM »
I was going through some old boxes at mom and dad's today and unearthed an ashtray from the 1964 Milwaukee Classic featuring Marquette (with Willie Wampum), Wisconsin, UCLA and Boston College. What a find!

put the picture on your computer, in the reply box their is an additional options button, click it and you will have the space to attach/browse for the location of the picture.  Once you have the address in the attach box of the picture hit post.  I attached this picture using those steps.

That is an excellent find.
And Willie on an ash tray.  Di Ulio's head would explode.

But that's a keeper:  it was Al's first season.  And Marquette beat Bucky.

Back then smoking was acceptable.  Now it's not.

I will take this dirty ashtray off your hands for a few bucks.
Thanks for ruining summer, Canada.

If I remember we led UCLA at halftime and were the only team to do that in '64

I remember Johnny Austin was the great point guard for Boston College and recall him scoring a lot of points in the Classic.

Not nearly as ferocious as RISD's mascot. I hear when he gets angry he increases in size. The students have named him "Tom"

This mascot obviously was the inspiration for the invention of the Pocket Hose. Which, BTW, is a great gardening accessory.

Didn't some school have a team mascot named "nads" and the cheer was " go-nads"?

Interesting how similar Boston College's logo is to the current MU one, a harbinger of the future?
If pile your ashes or stick your gum over Willie and Boston College, viola: the contemporary version emerges!

Tom

You are correct, sir. It is right in your back yard so you can witness in person the magic that is RISD athletics . The hoops squad is known as "The Balls" while the hockey team is "The Nads." Their mascot is of course, "Scrotie." If you go to the official university website these names are proudly proclaimed. Such candor is refreshing, especially from an elite school. RISD's archrival is the Narragansett Clams, led by mascot "Clammy." The two mascots engage in a bizarre suggestive mating ritual throughout their annual face off.

Al ran the box and one on Goodrich. That was my first inkling that he was special.
