Title: Hoopscoop 2009 rating of Marquette's class to date
Post by: detroitwarrior on July 20, 2008, 08:02:06 PM
For what it's worth, Hoopscoop has Marquette's 2009 incoming class ranked 2nd in the country at the present time. That could change as other programs sign other high profile recruits and it is just one evaluation, but it is nice to see nonetheless.

yeah, but they all suck according to Murf watching their "feel good videos" - how will we ever compete in the big East?

Sarcasm aside, MU recruiting looks to be on an upswing...

Despite the fact that we'll probably drop in the class ranking when all is said and done, the BUZZ has created a BUZZ with recruits.

Marquette is in Milwaukee.
Marquette is a BASKETBALL only school.

Great press. Excellent exposure.

Now make it last!

Anyone else think/wish Al had been around to meet Buzz?  The process might be flawed, but the guy carries himself like a pro.  He's created more excitement before the season then I can remember.  I think Al and Buzz are kindered spirits, it's a shame that Al did have a chance to impart any wisdom to Buzz like he did to TC.

The process is only flawed if MU hired him in a panic or because they did not want to make an effort to go after other coaches. It just may be that MU liked him from the start, bercause they saw something in a current employee. Since we were not part of the hiring process we do not know what went down. Quit complaining about the hiring process.

I like how if someone makes a positive post about buzz someone will still come in and tell them not to complain.  Thank god buzz has you to protect him bislu.

It looks like Hoopscoop has Williams and Cadougan ranked between 11-40, Maymon ranked between 41-70 and Buycks ranked between 71-100.  Are these guys ranked this high by any other recruiting service?  Does Hoopscoop have individual 2009 rankings available?

If this holds up in comparison to last year they would end up  up with a top 15 class. Its ranked as abotu the same as Indiana (including Nick Williams)and Missouri for 2008 and right behind Minnesota. Yet its as balanced (in terms of average rating per recruit) as Kansas and Memphis from last year. Very interesting, may be more interesting to see if Junior Eric and Jeronne's ratings go up after their senior years, hopefully they won't relax, and are able to come back strong from injuries, and maybe stop eating so much crappy food.

Hoopscoop just did a top 25 for 2009 a few weeks ago, Erik Williams was ranked #11 in the class, Junior Cadougan was ranked #21.  There hasn't been an update to the entire top 100 for a while.

Hoopscoop's ranking is the highest for both of them.  Cadougan's next highest is #50 by Prepstars.  Williams' next best is #48 by Hoopmasters.

Maymon's best ranking is #33 by ESPN.  As for Buycks, nobody else does that kind of ranking for JUCO kids, so there's nothing to compare it to.

Great to see....though I was reminded that Hoopscoop is easily the worst recruiting service out there recently.   ;)

Chicos, I remember reading that thread. It does seem that some of Hoopscoop's individual player ratings are out of whack with respect to Scout and Rivals  and our guys seem to be rated a lot higher as well. However, without wanting to rehash how one determines the strength of a class, I think it is fair to say that coming in, the class of 2009 will be viewed in most services as a Top15 to 20 class. How they perform once they get here remains to be seen.

I agree entirely.....2nd rated class would be killer.  Hell, anything in the top 20 and it's a damn good class.

I used the RSCI format of ranking recruiting classes.  Basically, the RSCI format is to assign 100 minus ranking points to each player.  In this format, players that are ranked higher count more than multiple high rankings.  Marquette gets points for their three players ranked between 70 and 85 (Cadougan - 31 pts, EWilliams - 23 pts, Maymon - 12 pts).

The format has its limitations, and RSCI is preliminary data right now, but still it's interesting to see.  Marquette ends up 15th in this view.

   College           Pts
1   North Carolina   299
2   Georgetown           143
3   Florida           135
4   Louisville           124
5   UAB                   103
6   Connecticut   102
7   Illinois           98
8   Villanova           90
9   Clemson           88
10   UCLA                   83
11   Arizona           76
12   Duke                   71
13   Rutgers           69
14   Tennessee           67
15   Marquette           66
16   Minnesota           62
17   Kansas State   59
18   Pittsburgh           47
19   Baylor           37
20   Oklahoma           34
21   Kentucky           28
22   Indiana           25
23   Akron                   21

2 - Georgetown
4 - Louisville
6 - UConn
8 - Villanova
13 - Rutgers
15 - Marquette
18 - Pittsburgh

So did one of their recruits, Tamir Jackson......he's now back on the market and UAB is sure to drop in these rankings (though DeMarcus Cousins is the real prize anyway)

Wow ... a high school coach named Hurley telling one of his players where he should and should not attend college.
Who'd have thunk it?

Cousins is the prize, but Cousins may be on the way out as well.  And that's if he even qualifies, which seems like a long shot.
